the next week, 8/9, Mr. Mercedes debuts.

I don't go to actual theaters much for movies any more, but I will for the Dark Tower.

I've read it twice. Honestly I'm concerned about the movie. I realize it "another cycle" of the quest, but they should have just stick to the written story.

I read all of the books multiple times...
i was concerned about a movie coming out as I am usually disappointed in movies when I had loved the book series so much.
I use Cujo as an example,. In the book, you heard all of the Dog's rabid thoughts and confusion..It was mentally terrifying..In the movie, You had a giant St Bernard slobbering on the car window.. Not the same.

Just looked up the number of movies made from his books.. wow, more prolific than Invicta

For this movie, after seeing the trailers, I am optimistic..

I get involved and invested in the books.. As an example.. I read X-men comics and all related X-titles for years.. Wen the movies came out I was like, Wait WTF? It didn't happen like that!

Pet Cemetery definitely wasn't like the book and was a disappointment but it had a great soundtrack.

It was also not like the book, but I have to say for me it was still creepy as hell. So it still had some Steven King effect.

Green Mile was amazing.

Thinner-was decent

Maximum Over drive- was okay

Dolores Clairborne-was pretty good (I love Cathy Bates)

Misery-wasn't as good as the book but it was damn close

Same here, but these are so awesome and it took 20+ years from the first to the last book, I'm very concerned they will fuck this up. The Gunslinger would have been a perfect entry into the Dark Tower universe. Oh well.

Pretty sure he stayed at the hotel I chefed a couple evenings over the course of a couple years.

The millennial crew I managed had no idea who he was but myself and the FOH MOD agreed it was him possibly under an alias. If it wasn't him it was his twin.

Both times, as soon as I made so much as eye contact with him down at the manager's reception to initiate an approach, he was off to his room soon after. All I wanted to do was comp him and make him whatever he wanted personally on the house and without anybody else knowing, but my 3 second stare each time to confirm it was him was enough for him to get spooked apparently.

It's been so long trying to recollect the story in my mind that maybe it wasn't him after all, but at the time me and two other fellows were convinced it was.

King, from what I know, is pretty shy.

I used to travel extensively through mid-Maine and heard numerous King stories. My favorite is the baseball field story.

King is an avid baseball fan. The greater Bangor ME (Kings home) area is a relatively modest income area. Recreation facilities are fairly low priority on the town budget.

King noted the town's need of a baseball field, so he had one built. He spared no expense - lights, etc.. He even set up an endowment for the town to maintain the facility.

As the story goes, the local adult softball league decided the field was too nice for little league play and wanted to keep it for themselves. When King heard, he told the town to either let the kids use the field or he'd cut off the funding.

I gained a lot of respect for him after hearing this story.

That's an interesting and great story.

Had no idea he was a fan. Not sure what team he follows, but Brian Sabean was a guest one of those nights scooping the Rivercats as he occasionally did. Have a picture somewhere of me sporting the '10 and '12 rings somewhere. Have no idea if it was just coincidence but maybe he got an invite to the game taking place that evening and that's why he left after dinner? EDIT: Seems he's a Boston Fan but as a lover of the game maybe he attended with Brian? Who knows.

I also remember that POS Pauly Shore was with us and made it very obvious he was in town for a crap gig. Ugh. Unfortunately he stayed whenever he did standup and laughs unlimited here. Terrible show from what I hear as you can imagine.
