Saw Meg this weekend. It was horrible. I did read an interview w/the director after the fact, and he said they neutered it to get the PG-13 rating. Maybe an "R" rated version would be better.

Perhaps my best movie for year 2018 "Prayer before Dawn." A truggle of a foreigner in the worst prison of Thailand and fighting his way out based on true story,

The actor and director should win some awards for making it!

Adrift...Very good. Woodley's performance is strong. Based on a true story.

Anyone watching season 2 of The Sinner? I'm about 4 episode into it. Pretty good so far. Very twisted at times.

Just finish watching "Pick of the Litter";

Good documentary if you like dogs, as well as an inside view of training a Guide Dog. If I could have purchased the movie, I would have, but it's only available as a rental in Amazon.

I just re-watched Tightrope with Clint Eastwood. 80's flick I hadn't seen in years. A bit disjointed with some plot holes, but creepy, and even though Eastwood's character is a cop, he plays against type (especially since everyone knew him for the Dirty Harry movies at the time).

And he wears a very cool rootbeer TT Rolex GMT in it. He wore the same watch in In the Line of Fire.

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on Netflix. It is a short 4 episode series about chef Samin Nosrat and her approach to those 4 things. It was very interesting to me, and I had never heard of her prior to watching it.

Wife picked out some movies:
Going in Style-pretty funny, super slow. Great for old people I guess
Lief of the Party-this movie wasn't life of the party. It was sad, and lame. Chick flick for sure.

I still like low budget movies. Jason Trost is one of my favorite directors/actors. Check them out

About halfway through Narcos: Mexico on Netflix. Pretty good so far. Roughly parallels the timeline of the first season of Narcos, but takes place in Mexico instead of Colombia. Kiki Camerena (played by Michael Pena) has a prominent role, so I'm assuming things don't end particularly well for him, but I haven't gotten there yet.

Watched Homecoming on Amazon (not to be confused with Homeland). I like a good mystery, and it was decent, but I found it uneven.

I'm recording The Little Drummer Girl. Watched about an hour. So far, so good. Read the le Carre book. Never saw the Diane Keaton movie.

Heard good things about Escape at Dannemora on Showtime. Planning to check it out.

Yep Narcos: México has been pretty good so far (the first two seasons with Escobar were the best).

Also watched the first episode of the last season of House of Cards. A little slow but it's to be expected after having to write off Kevin Spacey.

The Ghost Army documentary is on Amazon Prime and also PBS again in December. It's really worth your time to learn about the recently declassified Operation Quicksilver.

From wikipedia:
The Ghost Army was an Allied Army tactical deception unit during World War II officially known as the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops (Operation Quicksilver). The 1,100-man unit was given a unique mission within the Allied Army: to impersonate other Allied Army units to deceive the enemy. From a few months after D-Day, when they landed in France, until the end of the war, they put on a "traveling road show" utilizing inflatable tanks, sound trucks, fake radio transmissions, scripts and pretence. They staged more than 20 battlefield deceptions, often operating very close to the front lines. Their story was kept secret for more than 40 years after the war, and elements of it remain classified. The unit was the subject of a PBS documentary The Ghost Army in 2013.Image

Read the book and saw the movie. Thought the movie was faithful to the book. My favorite LeCarre book. Be interested in your thoughts on the series.

Homecoming was disappointing to me considering the quality actors in it. Like you said very uneven.

Finished up The Little Drummer Girl a couple of days ago. I really liked it. I thought the acting was terrific, especially Michael Shannon. The filmmakers conveyed the complexity of the situation and did a good job showing the effects that placing her in deep cover ultimately had on her psyche.

Definitely recommended.
