Rolling 911

Post by logan2z » Fri May 12, 2017 1:54 am

It's not often that I get to see my car from this perspective, but one of my buddies took this shot from his car while we were driving down to Luftgekhült last weekend.

Pretty decent shot considering we were moving at about 80 mph ;)

dave, are you looking to purchase new or an older, "historic" model? there are things to look out for with each iteration, but best bet with any of them is to pay for an independent pre purchase inspection (ppi) on any of them. cost of parts and repairs can be very high compared to american or japanese cars, so you want to avoid the surprise of a five figure repair soon after purchase, or factor it into the purchase price if known issues.

dwc of the porsche web world is rennlist. fantastic community and a wealth of information regarding all models. it's a good place to begin your research. i've never owned one of the newer water cooled models, but i know zack has experience with some of these. andrew owns a 993 currently, and i used to own a 993, which was the last model of the aircooled 911s 1995-1998. I lost mine to flood water about five years back and have been shopping carefully ever since for a similar example. just bought a 964, which was the 911 version of 1991-1994, just prior to the 993 model. oddly enough, it had almost all of the same setup tweaks that my previous car had, so it should feel very similar right out of the gate. my brother in law, ian who is also a member here also had a 993, which he sold a few years back to get into an older '87 I believe, so he can compare 993 to earlier impact bumper era 911 for you. i'm sure there are lots more members here with 911 ownership experience who can chime in as well.

let us know if we can answer any specific questions, and by all means, have a poke around rennlist to get an idea of the different pluses and minuses of the different eras of p cars.

oh, and to get this back on topic, 993s look spectacular from every angle, but far and away one of the best asses on any car ever

Congratulations, Jason. Can't wait to see pics and hear more about it. I have been spending some time looking lately. Torn between a 964 and 997. 964 seems cooler. 997 more practical.

If it's a daily driving rotation car, I'd go 997. As you said, more practical. But if it's purely a toy, 964 or 993 all the way. I've had every iteration of 996 and above for both daily and toy use.

Thanks. It was a terrific event. You know it's legit when Seinfeld makes an appearance.
