Speaker repair, maybe?
I don't know if this is the correct way to repair a speaker, but right before our road trip we had a speaker (yes the Infinity's I installed a few years ago) start to rattle/bizz. When I took it out of the dash I noticed that when I would move the cone up and down it was separated from the lower piece of material (I don't know what it is called). But I got some black silicone (because silicone flex's and moves) and applied it around the area that the two different pieces connect. It was close quarters so I used a q-tip to apply the silicone. I then let it sit for 24 hours. It is still working great.

Great to hear that you were able to repair it. I hope that it lasts through the vibration not only of the sound but also the car, engine, road, etc.

That's a good temporary repair. Sounds about right for Infinity.

That's how my mechanic was going to quick fix one my Acura's speakers. At least until he discovered that the covers aren't removable. The whole door panel would have had to come off. I said screw it.

Nicely done. It should hold for a while. That yellow thing is actually called a "spider" for reasons unknown to me. It's basically a suspension and control mechanism for the cone, holding it in place, and channeling/allowing the cone movement forward and back while preventing side to side (which would tear the cone). I'm sure it was pretty raspy until you glued it all back together. Worst case is you lost a little bit of high frequency performance, but in a car it won't matter unless you're parked in a garage with the engine off.

Has Infinity quality slipped? It used to be my favorite brand at one time. The part that the cone separated from is the voice coil.

The yellow thing is the spider. Voice coil is underneath the center of the spider, driving the signal into the cone. It's true that the voice coil can detach from the back of the cone but it sounds like the separation was the spider. Or not, I'm just going by the red seam in the pic.

Hold on a moment..... No one has anything to say about Terry having a handy supply of black silicone?
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.
