Beat me to it Stew; basically a synonym for Top Gear (in a good way).

The Grand Tour (New Top Gear)

Post by Dogmann » Sat Nov 19, 2016 4:25 am

Hi all,

Well it's back and it has started to air now, the production is definitely bigger than before with more razzamataz but I'm not so sure its better IMHO.

Yes they had some awesome cars but to much of it just felt forced and there were two segments that really sucked IMHO one was when they were trying to be funny and introduce some stars to the show which IMO was a massive fail it just wasn't at all funny and doing the same thing 3 times was just stupid.

The other was when they were trying to be funny about the RAF being the best Air Force in the world whilst located in the US desert with a US audience. I won't spoil it for you other to say it was painful to watch and missed the mark completely, if they had cut it from the show it would of been better IMO.

The new track and car on test plus the new racing driver (No Stig for sure) was also not as good as the old and missed the mark IMO. Was the show overall any good? I would have to say it was OK rather than stunning or brilliant it really was the same old same old and dare I say it getting a bit predictable and boring I am not as excited to watch it as I was for Top Gear nor excitedly waiting for the next episode. I will watch the next episode as always they do have great cars and some of the show is still funny anyway that's what I thought of it be interested to see what any else thinks.

For the most part it is captures what Top Gear was all about Pre-their departure, which is a good thing. Wish they would take the opportunity to innovate a little though. I did enjoy the opening sequence.

I haven't seen it yet but it appears to have some mixed reviews. With all that's at stake it seems to me they'd be well advised by some major theatre or film people. It's entertainment afterall.

I'm going to watch this Sunday night. I imagine it'll be what I expect from the three boneheads, some ridiculous laughs which is what I'm hoping for.

I really liked it. Brought back memories as I used to watch the Hothouse Flowers back in the day. Lead singer lived just round the corner from me.

Would have been good to see more of Armie Hammer, he is a big watch guy.

I wasn't a fan of the test car racing driver, it just didn't work.

Overall though I really liked it.

That is my big gripe too. I wasn't overly impressed with him at all. I think the McLaren P1 is just pure sex on wheels.

Hi Stuart and all,

We seem to have very different views on this show as I actually thought this was better than the first one. It still misses the mark with a few things for me and I really hope the star feature doesn't continue for the whole series as I hated it in Ep1 and thought it was nearly as bad in Ep2 it wasn't funny to start with and is now both predicable and boring and worst of all just not funny.

Whoever in production feels that repeating things just for the sake of it is a good idea IMO is really missing the mark it wasn't funny in the Air Force skit last week and the repeat feature in the Special Forces training this week was also a big miss for me. It wasn't a great bit to start with and dragging it out for no good reason was just boring.

Lastly what made the Stig great when taking cars on the test track was the fact he didn't speak and whilst the new racing driver may be a great driver he has a voice and personality better suited to silence IMHO.

Otherwise as always great cars and it actually felt a little less forced this time round although its understandable as to why the presenters are constantly grinning it must be due to them thinking of their new huge paychecks.

Ep3 was much better. I've read several reviews where they probably should've started out with this one.

Agree, Ep 3 was a return to form. I saw on Reddit that a lot of people don't care for The American. Part of the appeal of The Stig was his silence. Also, the Celebrity Brain Crash segment is pretty odd.

However, did anyone notice Jeremy's shoes this time?
