NHL - Stanley Cup Predictions
NHL - Stanley Cup Predictions
As I sit here watching the Ducks v. Capitals, I can't help but wonder if this is a preview of the Stanley Cup Finals. Discuss...

Hawks, again. Too deep. And Crawford is on a roll. And Captain Serious is ... very serious ... about winning the Cup.

My poor 11 year son is going through what I did before 1994. So close but yet so far.

Never know. Hank may get hot, Nash should be back soon, and E. Staal seems like a good addition so far, so hopefully all that experience means something come the playoffs. I think they can beat anyone in the east in a seven game series if they give the right effort (which has been lacking in certain games all season I feel).giosdad wrote:^^This^^Chocodove wrote:I just plan on being disappointed by the Rangers again.

Caps look great but they have the monkey on their back of past playoff history. Holtby has been a bit of a sieve lately, but I'm sure he'll turn it around.
Isles/Rangers first round would be an amazing series.

It seems like no one noticed my Islanders going 6-1 on their road trip. I don't think they are good enough to win the Cup, but I think they can give any team a hell of a series. I'll be happy if they get to end the Rangers season.

In the last 30 years, only three teams have won back to back cups. In the last 20; only one* It would be amazing to see a repeat by any team, but the grind it takes to go the the distance takes a significant toll. Simply looking at the Finals from perspective of rest/recuperation plus current performance, I can see Florida v LAK in the finals.jad3703 wrote:Hawks, again. Too deep. And Crawford is on a roll. I would like to see the Caps finally get the cup however I too have doubts about anyone taking out the Hawks unless, possibly, Anaheim and the Hawks will beat each other to near death in the west leaving whoever ends up facing the east (Caps I anticipate) will be too tired to hang on for the series.
cheers,

Agreed regarding the grind of getting to the Final, let alone winning the Cup. Lots of 'warrior' teams in both Conferences. I am just not sure that the Caps have the mental toughness for that length of war - I like Ovechkin but does he have the warrior-spirit to grind it all out?lilhoody wrote:In the last 30 years, only three teams have won back to back cups. Toews does, as he has proven since junior.
I like the Kings for their experience and toughness. And Quick.
And I like the 'Cats for their skilled young core, although I am also not sure about their mental toughness over the long-haul, at least this year, although it does bode well for the future.
And as for the Rangers, if King H gets as hot as he can ... and the Rangers core kicks it up, they could be a tough team to beat.
And I do like the Islanders, Chris. Any team with John Tavares is dangerous. Just not the year for them ...

Blackcaulks. On top of Toews and Kane they add that Russian sniper dude along with Ladd and still basically have their original key pieces in place.

This X1000 except for me it's the Blues. I would like to see the Cap's win it all though.Chocodove wrote:I just plan on being disappointed by the Rangers again.

i've never been a huge hockey fan, but i've lived through a couple of vicious mult-overtime game 7 losses. it's time to see them take that step. even if not for me, the fan-base here is, imo, pretty deserving after supporting the team as well as they have through so much playoff crap.

I predict it won't be the Flyers.
Re: NHL - Stanley Cup Predictions
I hope Hank is back soon and puts together a run. He is not getting any younger. I told Gio that getting Nash back will hopefully feel like getting a big trade right before the playoffs. Hopefully he feels like he has something to prove. Gio and I really like the E. Staal trade. Gio has declared him his second favorite player next to Kevin Hayes which he has been a big fan of since he showed up on the team. It is amazing how much he knows about hockey and the players coming out of college and in the league at such a young age.Chocodove wrote:Never know. Hank may get hot, Nash should be back soon, and E. If Sunday's game is any indication a Rangers / Isles playoff will be tremendous. (though for Gio's sake we better win)

I ignore anything good the Isles do and love nights like last night when they blow a lead and lose in shootout.CGSshorty wrote:It seems like no one noticed my Islanders going 6-1 on their road trip. Half of Gio's friends are Islander fans and they torture each other on a daily basis. So now it is less about me and more about his bragging rights.

Halak is done for the rest of the season, so you might get lucky.giosdad wrote:I ignore anything good the Isles do and love nights like last night when they blow a lead and lose in shootout.CGSshorty wrote:It seems like no one noticed my Islanders going 6-1 on their road trip. Bump for the real season beginning this week. Rangers are going to have their hands full with the Pens.

Flyers are going to have a tough series against the Caps. With Ed Snider's passing this morning they should come out with a chip on their shoulder to win this for him.
