Podcast suggestions

Post by james80 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 4:21 am

Going on from this:

http://www.thedivewatchconnection.com/f ... =2&t=48437

and having just been introduced to podcasts myself I'm hooked. I spend a lot of time in my truck and now almost exclusively listen to podcasts and audio books during the day.

I just finished Dan Carlin's Blueprint for Armageddon about World War One, six episodes, 23 hours total, absolutely brilliant. The series is called Hardcore History and I cannot recommend it enough.

What do you guys listen to?

Great idea for a thread!

I enjoy "Stuff you should know". Funny and informative. The last one I listened to, "how plasma waste converters work" was great.

Ballistic radio (gun spooning stuff)
http://ballisticradio.com/podcasts/ (Start with mid-2013's William April podcast or Craig Douglas)

Sawbones (history of medical stuff)
http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/sawbones (Funny look at medical ideas; to be fair, I use all these shows to help mitigate insomnia; guns, guts and Bigfoot sightings, below...)

Darkness radio (Minneapolis based Art Bell-influenced stuff: their weekly Tuesday "dumb criminals" news segment is priceless, albeit mindless, entertainment).
http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/darkness-radio

Carlin's hardcore history is great.

Thought I'd dig up this thread, as I'm looking out for some new podcasts to listen to, any more suggestions?

Other new ones I'm listening to:

The Smoking Tire - Car stuff, the host is Matt Farah (from DRIVE). Lots of swearing, fun if you like talking about cars with your friends while drinking.

The Tim Ferris Show - similar style to The Art of Manliness, Ferris wrote the 4-Hour Body book, among others.

Tomorrow with Joshua Topolski - tech related, Topolski was an Editor of Engadget, founding member of the The Verge and Digital Editor at Bloomberg.

Car Talk - Old NPR podcast, very funny. People would call the show to explain the problems they have with their cars and the host would try to resolve them.

Freakonomics Radio - Whatever the topic is, it will be deconstructed and analyze. Some shows are great, some are ok.

Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington used to do a podcast. Hilarious.

The Joe Rogan Experience is great. I don't care as much for the ones where he has comedians and MMA fighters on, but his podcasts with different scientists, hunters, politicians, etc. are great. Many diverse topics.

Snap Judgment and RadioLab always have good stuff too. Mostly incredible true stories from areas, but they are all compelling.

Bumping an old thread. Just started getting into podcasts. The Joe Rogan Experience is fantastic. Easy to listen to. Little bit of knowledge being dropped and overall a great listening experience. Going to give the smoking tire a chance too, if it's still around.

Anyone else have new podcasts they're streaming?

I listen to Joe Rogan a lot. He is gets a little big headed sometimes but he has a wide variety of people on.

Funny thing about Smoking Tire Matt Farah, I kind of pissed him off on Reddit talking watches. He was trying to tell me since he owns a Rolex nothing can compare. Of course I had to try an enlighten him. He is now starting a podcast with Cameron Weiss from Weiss watches coming out the end of the year I heard. :salute:
