Info needed on flashlights/torches

Post by polaco23 » Sun Jun 13, 2010 3:15 pm

Hey all, took me a while to pick out a birthday present from the girlfriend, but i chose a flashlight. Now all i need to do is find one for a good price and tell her about it.

Im thinking of the entry level Surefire. Id like a bright one, about 5 inches or so. My friend has the surefire and im really impressed with it.

I know nothing on torches, so if any of you (Dr. Jay please tune in!) know about them, or have links to any good prices. Please let me know. :geek:

the price range is around $50-70, im hoping i can have a proper torch i can use for years at that price.

Also, if anyone has a used one for sale.......PM a brother!

I have been SUPER happy with the 4sevens brand that Jay turned me onto. I have a Quark 123 and a Quark mini 123, and they have amazing output for the size price. I think it would blow your buddies Surfire away. I have two Surefires and they are great no doubt, but these little things totally kick butt. Here is a pic of the Quark 123 with my U1.

oooh, this is exactly what i was looking for, a new brand that is in the price range.

Do they make a model a little larger? im only using it for normal stuff, so i dont need a tiny portable everyday carry light.

Thanks for the heads up! I will look into these.

Are they LED? and is LED that much better than regular?

Yes, they are LED. the 123's take the special CR123 batteries that have like a 10 year shelf life. They also make AA versions, and those batteries you can get anywhere. The Turbo model is bigger, but the light output on any of these will blow away 90% of bigger Home Depot type lights.

If you have an old (or new) Mag light laying around, this will smoke it so bad it's embarassing. Don't think the size effects the output. They may be small but they pack a major lighting punch.
