Favorite car you used to own?
Something Fyah! said in another thread made me think of this: anyone have a favorite old car that they remember fondly? For me, it has got to be our old '82 Supra; the first of the toyota celica supras. What a fun car: super comfortable, fast enough to hurtle past trucks, cool rear wheel drive handling. We toured all over the western U.S. in that thing with our PA in the back; spun donuts in wet urban intersections rushing to gigs in unfamiliar cities; made whoopee on the hood in the middle of nowhere in wooded rural territories. Awesome. Looked just like the wiki one, below, only with lowered coil springs and intake/exhaust mods.
How about you folks?

I have had a few I miss. Not so much for the car, but rather they were company issued fleet vehicles.
I miss not paying for gas, maintenance, insurance, etc.

All time, no holds barred favorite car I ever owned, 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000. Quick, awesome handling, and a better all around package than the Spider ever was. Pic stolen from the Interweb, but same year and color. Not a bad angle on it.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

SAAB Turbo X. Sweet turbo 6cyl, AWD, 6 sp manual. Grip was off the charts. Very good get off, off the line, but a real rocket once out of 1st gear.

Only "owned" it temporarily but enjoyed it - better than the Land Rover Defender I also had access to.

Re: Favorite car you used to own?
I had a '99 Miata with sport suspension that I should have never let go. It looked great and was a blast to drive. I drove it daily for 6 years and eventually traded it in for my next car. I got so little for it I should have just held onto it. I think about it often.
Re: Favorite car you used to own?
I've had so many cars I can't narrow my "missed" down to a respectable number lol!
Right now, I'm thinking of the 99 VW Passat Wagon, which I had the boys at RPI Tuning turn into a really fast "GTI Wagon" of sorts. They did everything to well above GTI spec, with a brake kit, suspension, APR stage-2 tune, close ratio shifter, forged SSR wheels w/ Pirellis, euro trim, etc, etc....
It was an absolute joy to drive, got many looks and compliments, and was practical at the same time. One of my better concepts for sure.

I had one of these, about 5 years old, in the 90s. First year M3.

Full on egg head corporate job and I fly quite a bit so I'm really looking forward to adding to my collection of TSA friendly self defense tools. I have amcouple tactical pens, but I want to up the game and get into some custom stuff. Been watch obsessed for a while but this seems more fun.
Thanks for letting me play! "

Re: Favorite car you used to own?
I've had a few cars that I miss, but this is the one that hurt the most:
My 1991 5.0 GT. I bought it with 25k original miles on it, showroom fresh. No dings, scratches, rust, or any blemishes whatsoever. I changed nothing about the appearance, aside from lowering it 1in. I did however do a little engine work to bring it up to more modern performance standards, but not a whole lot.
It only had 44k miles when some prick ran a red light and hit me at about 35mph, right on the rear passenger wheel. I thought I'd own this car forever, probably not as a daily driver, but I saw myself passing this one down. I still technically own it, but its just sitting wrecked in a warehouse while the legal action is being resolved

Re: Favorite car you used to own?
Nice! I had a 1978 pearl white camaro with a peanut butter interior and a 400 out of a trans am in it. I liked almost everything about it, except driving in the rain (okay, and how easy it was to break into). I've never hydroplaned that much in my life!2canChew wrote:I owned 3 trans am when I was much younger (1974 with a 455 HO) (1976 Smokey & the Bandit with a 400)....... but my fav was the 1978 with a goosed up 400 engine .......

These are the most fun cars I've had over the years. Maybe MR2 was the most fun.
1967 MGB (red with red leather and tonneau cover, wire wheels)
1983 VW Rabbit GTI
1985 Toyota MR2
1999 Porsche C4
2003 Mini Cooper S

Re: Favorite car you used to own?
I have a few I would love to have now as I prepare on venture back into a project.
1970 Dodge Coronet, 1968 Olds Cutlass and a 1984 Trans Am that had a seized engine and I put in a 350 HP crate small block Chevy. I also has a 71 bug with a modded engine that was a blast to drive.
I also had a 1996 Land Rover Discovery that had 190,000 miles when I had to turn it in. It was a company car from the prior owners before we were acquired by a larger company and the new company wanted me in their lease program.

Drove this one to the Torrey Pines Hilton for the Super Bowl pre-game party in 03. Valet couldn't figure out how to drive it. And it was an auto.

Re: Favorite car you used to own?
Not a car I owner but one my dad's. 1966 Mustang. Bought it when he was 18 and owned ever since. Just restored it since it had been sitting since the 80's. Full body off restoration. We're getting ready to drop the engine/trans in then new wheels to finish it off. He took out the 289 when he was 19 (dumbass) and put a 302 in it. Since it wasn't original and will stay in the family, we put power steering, 5 Spd, new gears, and will put a 302 stroked out to 347.
Bad pic but this is it after we took it to have the top installed.
