I'm not sure if I'm going to see the movie in theaters, but that's because I imagine it's a fairly run of the mill action movie rather than because Cruise is playing Reacher. I can catch in on cable in a year or so. I've read a few of the Lee Child books, and Reacher is such an unbelievable character anyway, it doesn't matter to me whether they got his height exactly right for the movie.

If I were picking out of thin air, I'd picture Jason Statham, assuming he could do an American accent.

I always pictured Bob Saggett as Reacher. He's have been much better than Cruise.

I started reading these after seeing that the movie had been made. They're a little formulaic, but of the ones I've read so far, there's always an unpredicatable twist that raises the bar - great reads, and looking forward to the movie.

Child also said, "Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way."

Of Cruise's relatively small stature, Child said, "With another actor you might get 100% of the height but only 90% of Reacher. With Tom, you'll get 100% of Reacher with 90% of the height."

Also really enjoyed the movie. Female lead was the worst actor I've seen in awhile. Super hot though. Think she might have been a Bond girl...

^^^^

Second time I heard that, which is too bad because with a budget like that and Tom Cruise you'd think they could get a chick HOT and TALENTED.

I don't like Cruise but am curious about the movie so ill see it.
I agree they could have picked Vinnie jones, Dwayne Johnson or the Thor guy or even the guy who plays Hopie in Sons of Anarchy.. Just anyone else than Cruise... :(

Saw it last night and really enjoyed it. A step above the run of the mill action or Tom Cruise movie.
cheers,

Having read all of the Reacher books including the disappointing last one, I wasn't thrilled at the casting. My vote would have been Dwayne Johnson, but TC did ok. Girlfriend loved it. I liked it.

Personally I thought Cruise did well. But to be true to the Reacher stereotype they should have cast the guy playing the new Lone Ranger. His name is Armie Hammer (can't make this shit up) and he's a legitimate 6'5" 250.

The wife and I caught a short bit of "true blood" in the hotel over new year's, and it occurs to me that the 6'4" vampire guy also could have done it:

Just finished book 3, as said previously...a bit formulaic, but you expect that going in. They've been fun though. Downloading book 4 shortly.

How many are there?

Huh...I kinda liked that one!

Took my youngest son (16) to see it today - - we both loved it. I just had to keep telling myself this was a 'different' Jack Reacher. Cruise did a nice job with the character, I must admit. It's just that he's not Lee Child's Jack Reacher!

I can't go see this one because I'm against guns and violence, this flick apparently has both. I'm showing my sensitive side :bootyshake: :gayumbrella:

Just saw it with my wife. Good movie! Never read the books but I hear fans have a problem with Cruise's height.

Well, I suppose the Reacher series was written about the time Dolph Lundgren was still popular and everybody made their heroes like him. At least that's my theory lol

Another movie that wrote their hero or villain as fitting Lundgren's description was Soldier with Kurt Russel. Instead, they went with Jason Scott Lee in the actual film.

That said, I think Both Cruise and Lee played their roles well. And I don't think they had much choice considering he produced the movie haha

I had read a couple Reacher books before seeing the movie. Since then I've started buying the Reacher paperbacks in chronological order. I'm into #2 ("Die Trying") now and have the next three on order from Amazon (free shipping).

Not a huge Cruise can myself, but you've gotta hand it to the guy, he doesn't do anything halfway. If the roll calls for a 6'5" mofo, somehow he finds a way to act 6'5". He may be a psycho cult fanatic, but you can't deny that home skillet's got some serious intensity.

As for the chick in the film, her name is Rosamund Pike and she was the Bond villainess in Die Another Day. Not sure what happened here, 'cuz she can definitely act her way out of a wet paper bag.

Adam
