Buddy's project - VW Lupo 2xVR6, 600 HP
Just gave us permission to share since the project is officially finished.
He started it in 12/2008 and finished it in a little bit over a year.
He's a mechanic; not an engineer but a great greasemonkey who earns his money fixing bikes mostly. This was his project we were all sceptic about. In teh end, we just can't believe it. It was a Lupo 1.0 L engine with mere 50 Hp and high MPG. It's a monster today.
Starting the engine(s)
First run
Recent video some Hungarians posted on a track day.
And the launcH:
SUMMARY:
He even got the invitation to sell it as a show car

Just going off the picture, does the NOS get sprayed directly into the engine bay???Diaboliq wrote:

The details... jeez.
Gorgeous custom tanks (love the handmade filler necks), the custom dual clutch pedal assembly, copper hard radiator lines...
I'm in love.

No man, they are not connected yet; he fills them only for the track day.. All these starts above are WITHOUT NOS involved

My guess is they are backpressure/purge vents for the NOS. If they are, it would be better if vented completely out of the rear engine compartment.TLgdeL wrote:Just going off the picture, does the NOS get sprayed directly into the engine bay???
There is a short online article about your buddy's car here:
http://blog.cardomain.com/2008/09/30/twin-engine-lup/
There was a cool twin engine 4WD Golf which did Pikes Peak years ago. http://www.faltdach.net/vwpikespeakcar.htm That car got me thinking about doing the same thing with a Beetle, but I just never got beyond thinking about it, especially when I started trying to figure out how to synchronize the engines. If they were spinning the wheels at different speeds the car could become very difficult to control. Nowadays with all the electronic controls on the market, it's probably a no-brainer for some younger more tech-savvy mechanics...I am a simple shade tree grease monkey
I am more comfortable with archiac devices like distributors, points and condensers or vacuum synching carburetors. I see black boxes as something that will only short out or catch fire, and send me - with tail between my legs - asking that younger techie to help me.

There was a discussion on our local carproject forum "MYHRAWEB.COM" about this; he stated his case why and it had sense (I can't remember now since I'm more of a traditional grease monkey and LOVE technical parts and mechanics but HATE electronics, ECU-s, VEMS and all that crap) and I'm against NOS all the way. He is also but decided to put it on just to see what's the fuss about.
Great guy Peter. His avatar is this:
