At $1K I would be interested, but you should know going in this watch is going to likely be unflippable without a significant loss even at that discounted price.

Recon has a recently serviced Oceaneer (with bracelet, leather and Hirsh rubber plus a spare bezel) at $1K that's been flogged for the past month.

Korsbek Recon GMT

Post by hoppyjr » Wed Sep 21, 2016 9:42 am

I know Poul and he's good people. I wish Korsbek could have continued moving forward, but life sometimes gets in the way.

His designs were outstanding, being both simple and unique to my eye. I owned the Ocean Explorer, Oceaneer, and Hydro Explorer. I've also put hands on the Recon GMT prototype and it's a great looking watch.

No doubt it would take a big hit on the flip, plus I'd be concerned about future parts availability.

I'd buy one if I knew parts would be available long term.

Is that ever a sure thing with one of these micro brands? Is it even true for Kobold?

I've got to think things like gaskets and crystals are standard sizes and likely available. The 2893-2 is a common enough movement. There is no bracelet for this one, so nothing to worry about regarding links or screws. It is really only the dial and handset that are likely not future replaceable.

I just remember some of his old designs having really long lug to lug lengths, so wear ability could be a concern. Not a problem back in the days when Korsbek items were the forum favorites, but a bigger gamble today.

I was thinking of things like bezels and crowns. I'm sure everything else is off the rack.

Bezel, crown, handset, lug screws.

This one was about 51.5 lug to lug as I recall.

I like Korsbek (still have an Oceaneer) but would never pay that kind of money. @$1k, maybe. Maybe I'll make him an offer.

I wonder if he still has spare parts for the Oceaneers. If so I should buy some just in case.

^ I recall he did a big sell off of Oceaneer parts, bezels, etc. a couple years ago.
