Leather Strap Question

Post by ezcheese » Sat Jan 02, 2010 6:30 pm

This may sound ridiculous, but I have a question about these thick leather straps that are all the rage...

I tried the Delaurian strap that was made for the CaliHa'i a while back and it looked great and felt nice. When I went to try to take it off, I panicked. I could not get the damn thing off. I tried and tried and eventually, I ended up unscrewing one of the lug bars and getting the watch off that way. Is there some sort of trick I am missing with these thick leather straps?

Pull the non-buckle end real tight, while wiggling/twisting it back and forth a bit, and the buckle tang will release.

Is it common for it to be extremely difficult to get these off? It's weird having to struggle to get a strap off. :banplz:

Ive had some that were a little stiff and non flexible at first. I had to get my wife to do it for me at first. Then, after some pushups I was able to get it off by myself.

Stick with the 'wife getting it off' method. It's more fun that way.

I'm sorry, but I won't be any help in this matter. The thickest strap I own is from Rich (Toshi). I have never had a problem with taking his strap off. I can imagine how frustrating this has been for you, and hope you find the help you need.

Are you wearing the strap so tight that it doesn't give at all when you try to remove it.

If you wear it one hole looser, does it come off easily then?

When your not wearing the watch, put it on the strao, and to the hole you use, and wrap it around something like a watch pillow, so the strap will form and stretch a hair. once it gets broken in, itll get easier.

Either that or your wearing your straps way too tight.

Pull the long end of the strap back up toward the watch with your thumb and fore finger, with the middle finger release the buckle tang!! Off it will come!

I put the watch back on the Delaurian and it's on right now. I guess I will see what happens tonight when I go to take it off!

I don't wear my watches extremely tight, just tight enough so that they don't flop around. :bootyshake:

lol - I just saw this - I think I'd avoid some of the advice here... they break in & once they do, are great. Mine was brutally hard to get off the first week or so, and now it's no problem, slips right into the notch I use. I remember having some of those thoughts the first few times, but was able to get it loose by putting my arm down watch-face first against a table to hold the watch firmly so I could pull the strap tight to release the buckle.

just seen the thread and I guess you already found out what you have to do; you just need to break it in, wear it for few days so the leather gets contoures of your wrist. (some leather oil on the underside might also help breaking the stiffness). Other than that, it also depends on the choice of your strap buckle. Pre-V buckles are not very friendly with (very) thick straps due to the buckle bar design. Try another buckle, you might find it more comfortable.
