AP 15500
All - I am turning 50 this year and have been wanting an AP for some time and interested in the black dial version. I know this watch has become very hard to get through dealers and the grey market is charging $10k or more over list. To make it more difficult, I am nowhere near a dealer that I can establish some relationship with or get on a waitlist.
Any ideas on getting on a list through a dealer or on attaining this watch? I would most likely want to sell a couple of watches to help fund this so not immediate purchase, even if that were possible to do right now.
Thanks,
Chris

I wish I had a good idea for you. I’ve heard the same thing about availability and price. The one AP AD we had around here isn’t an AD any longer.
I’ve also heard it’s a “try before you buy” watch just because the bracelet can be an odd fit depending on wrist size/shape.

I think secondary is the way to go. And get the half link for bracelet fit.

Thanks and good intel on the fit and bracelet.
Yeah, I know gaining one through an AD in under a year is a lofty/highly unlikely goal. But it’s already a stretch at retail price for me. Spending $8-10k over list is most likely not an option.

Re: AP 15500
AP has reduced their dealer network in the US in favor of their own boutiques. The two dealers that were local to me no longer carry the brand, and the closest boutique is over 300 miles away.
The only thing I can think of is to call the US boutiques and put your name on their waiting lists. Sorry I don't have a better suggestion.

Re: AP 15500
The 1.5 Link is easy to get from AP directly and is the way to adjust the fit if needed.
I loved my 15400 but had to sell it when the prices got out of hand. I bought new at about a 25% discount years ago and sold to start building up funds for my first PM piece, which I’m still waiting on.

Am definitely wishing you good luck with this, and hoping that

Re: AP 15500
Yep - best thing to do is to either get on a list at a boutique (you’ll need to exercise patience and perhaps run into a little luck), or buy secondary. You only turn 50 once . Happy early bday Chris!
Re: AP 15500
It isn’t the same, but you can still get the diver and some of the offshore models on the secondary market for a comparatively reasonable price. But if you really want the 15500, that may not be what you’re after.

Thanks, all. Hanging on to 49 for a couple more months so would have to get really lucky. It’s the watch worth waiting for, for me. Will have some nice pieces to sell after that happens!
I did call Chicago and Atlanta so fingers crossed.

You might want to call Vegas and NYC too since they are big markets. And can’t hurt to play the 50th birthday card. Good luck with the search.goaliechris wrote:Thanks, all.
