New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ TAG Heuer
Just a vague screenshot but another one showed a ceramic case. Initial guess is that this is a 3705 reissue, no date. Advertised on IWC as well so probably a 1000 piece limited edition, not 250 like the recent BP. If it’s a 3705, I might be in trouble.

Wonder what the price will be.
Say what you want about Hodinkee, but these limited edition collaborations have been mostly excellent and well-thought out.

Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
Can't disagree. The only negative for me with these collaborations - besides the high price that usually accompanies them - is the Hodinkee name on the watch. I just really dislike the idea of having the name of a website/blog engraved on my watch. But if this is a 3705 reissue then I have to admit I'll be very tempted.goaliechris wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 6:18 amthese limited edition collaborations have been mostly excellent and well-thought out.
Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
Exactly that. I would buy a few of the collabs - but didn’t due to the gaudy name applicationlogan2z wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 6:39 amCan't disagree. Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
I agree with that mostly. The two BP collabs were only labeled on the rotor and doesn’t stand out too much. Here’s the one I am wearing right now. But I get it, it would be better without.

They’ll fuck this one up somehow.
Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
I think this will be good. Real good. Maybe Ceratanium like their last colab.

But at least it’s a good kind of trouble to be in Chris !
It will be neat to see how this one will actually look. But
from the sneak peeks, you can tell it will be incredible.
Thanks very much for the news !!!

New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
To each their own.
Edit - It looks like this is not necessarily a collaboration with H. It’s being sold through other outlets. I think it’s just the H will be allowed to sell it as well. Good news maybe for those who don’t like them.
It’s also a little bit confusing as to what watch is being teased. IWC Instagram story did a run of pictures that started with “If this watch was a decade..” and it included the St Louis arch, JFK, and then Aretha. So what the 60s? And yet they also stated the 90s reference. Strange.

Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
They’re definitely not rolling this out in typical Hodinkee fashion. BTW, the email that I received from them clearly says, “Stay Tuned For Our Next Collaboration”. Not unusual for them to do a colab and also sell through the brand’s boutique.
I guess we shall see. My money is still on an in-house 3705 in ceratanium.

Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
Hopefully not Ceratanium. IWC thinks it’s made of 18K gold. Regular ceramic for 7-8K MSRP will be nice. I’m not paying 13K for IWC for a titanium watch with ceramic spray-on frying pan technologyCabaiguan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 6:31 amThey’re definitely not rolling this out in typical Hodinkee fashion. I hope they get the date placement right.
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.
Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
Hodonkey branding. Might as well be Nike or Addidas. Why would you want that?

Because they have made some smart design choices?

Yeah, you're right. The branding doesn’t matter much to me so the extra name shouldn’t matter either.

Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
I would take ceramic also and agree the price would be easier on the wallet. Ceratanium is a nice material though. I purchased the first ‘Dink IWC, which I later sold, and was impressed by the lightness and overall look of the material. It was awesome but a bit too plain. The chronograph on the other hand...Panerai7 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 2:43 pmHopefully not Ceratanium. IWC thinks it’s made of 18K gold. Regular ceramic for 7-8K MSRP will be nice. Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
Is ceratanium a fancy way of say enameled titanium?
Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
“ Ceratanium isn’t a coating. Apparently, during the sintering process (that’s baking in an oven, to you and me), a “phase transformation” takes place, which results in a ceramic-like surface that bonds directly with the titanium.”
All I can say is that this is an awesome alloy. It’s pricey which is why they don’t really use it too much. It combines the properties of both ceramic and titanium and the “feel” of it is something you simply don’t find in any other watch material. I’m a fan.

That phase transformation could be something as simple as DLC. I’d would nice to get something that’s not just marketing.Cabaiguan wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 12:25 pm“ Ceratanium isn’t a coating. Re: New Hodinkee Collaboration w/ IWC
Hard to find any detailed info on the process. Not surprising as it’s their proprietary alloy. It isn’t DLC though. Not just on surface but an bonded alloy.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 3:49 pmThat phase transformation could be something as simple as DLC.
