BB58 coming this week. Would like to get a Seiko Willard or the new MM200, but realistically neither would ever get worn. Also treating my Speedmasters to flat link bracelets, so that will feel like three new watches. Nothing leaving. I’m not selling any more watches unless I have to, because it’s always harder (and often more expensive) to replace them than it was to buy them.

Also, did you get the black or the blue '58?

My all Seiko hoard hasn't changed since February, and doubt it will for awhile.

Combination of being content and having another interest I'd rather spend money on.

While there are some nice looking new Seiko models released this year, none have made me want them more than what I already have.

Sold my last Rolex to Wu this year and haven’t missed it. Picked up a Sinn U1 again as well as the green and black Willard SPB151/153. As much as I loved the green Willard, I moved it to make room for the upcoming SPB187... IF that sticks I might move the U1 and take it easy for a bit.

Or I might sell the SPB187 and U1 to try and position myself for a used updated MBII once they start hitting the secondary market. I really miss that watch even though my MBII v1.0 was a complete lemon.

So currently:

Dornbluth 99.1
3570.50
6139-6005 and 6002
SPB151
Sinn U1

Must have for 2021:
SPB187

Here’s the best vids of it so far:

My collection has remained steady. Only additional so far was Bell & Ross White camo. Big thing was getting my watch box finished.
Got incoming tomorrow hopefully Steeldive BP Baracuda homage, will do separate post on that and wife got mr the Baltic GMT for Christmas.
Next year I am torn between the Sinn U50 or another Bell & Ross.

If the Steeldive is any good I may just waste my money there.

This year, I anchored my collection on JLC with this “something for every occasion” trio:

I still have a bunch of other watches, but I’m trying to trim the collection more and focus on watches that I really love to wear.

Year End SOTC and next moves

Post by SoCal C4S » Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:11 pm

Honestly, I’m thinking about going back to my roots and finding as many Citizen Aqualand dive watches as I can in 2021. I wore them throughout my time as a Marine and while working for the gov.

Moved in and out of a dozen Rolexes, Panerais, IWC’s, etc. this year, once Covid hit and I only wanted watches that I felt better about wearing to do everything.

Current state:

Year End SOTC and next moves

Post by gwells » Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:14 pm

Here’s where I stand. Nothing new this year.

Image

Primary rotation is PO, 556, AT (now that it’s fixed), Seaforth pastel, PADI, and occasionally U1. Others are occasional.

The rarely/never worn (and probably ought to sell) pile from the roll...

Image

Nothing specific on the radar. Long-term still want to try a Doxa and a Nomos Dunkel Club, but no specific plans to make that happen right now.

I've been content with these three for awhile now. At some point I want to get one nice automatic diver again. I sold my Pelagos LHD awhile back and then eventually sold my SKX and a Bernhardt I had.

I know it sounds cliche but I'd like to just get one nice diver that I could keep "forever", the one that is my nice watch that when I take my final dirt nap in 40-50 years it will be something that my son will want to wear and would be worth paying to have serviced.

I like the looks of the new white waved dial Seamaster, but I just don't think that is going to age well, and I'm already not crazy about the styling of the bracelet.

The Pelagos is another option but I was hoping the might release a new model that is a little thinner if they use the movements they have in the BB58. I really liked the LHD I had but I'd probably just go with the standard black model if I got another one.

Then of course there is the Sub, and I really love the looks of the new model with the slimmer lugs. I'm not worried about the cost, but I just don't know if it would be a little too flashy for me with the shiny ceramic bezel and the stigma that can come along with wearing a Rolex. But then again, do most regular folks even notice the watch on your wrist? But then again, again, the people that do notice might be the people trying to steal it.... Lol. That brings me back to the Pelagos I think. I love the utilitarian look of it, and I really like titanium.

Picked up 4 this year:

No date Sub
Full metal G (gold)
Scurfa blue titanium (no pic)
Scurfa black titanium (love these)

So as it stands this is what I got (unintentionally ended up with duos, guess I’ve found my type). Will shoot for a Speedy or White Seamaster next year. Maybe a blnr if I can make it happen.

Just the two pictured below plus a quartz Seiko for Brooks Brothers chronograph that was a gift from my parents (it has kind of a Patek or Lange vibe to it). I'd actually give it to one of my boys if either expressed interest.

Pretty happy with the small collection. I had a few come in and go out this year, but I finally decided to bite the bullet on the 14270 before prices go completely nuts (or nuttier, I guess). The 16570 has stayed with me for almost three years now, so I don't think it's likely to leave. The only thing I could see moving the 14270 for is a polar 16570, but even those are getting crazy expensive. There's nothing else I want that's in my price range unless I were to trade both of these.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Canvas!
