I remember when these came out, I always meant to pick one up (like with so many watches  ) but never had a chance.

Looks good!
This one is modded.

Citizen put an all metal bezel on the grey dial version and this black bezel with inlay numerals on the black dial version. This has the grey dial I prefer but with the black bezel. Perfect combo IMO

I have been lingering more and more on HQ Milton and Tropical Watch looking for the right watch to get back into something vintage.  I actually made an offer last month on a really nice late 70's maxi dial 5513, but was too late.  Checking new listings last weekend, I saw a birth year (1972) 5513 that I really liked, and so I went ahead and pulled the trigger!

My first Rolex vintage was something that turned out to be a well done fake 5513, for which I had paid a then market $4,000+ about 11 or 12 years (and only got partial reimbursement from an MIA seller).  Before finding out about that old 5513, I had added and then sold a 1680 Sub.   Still bitten by the vintage bug, I learned my lesson from the faux 5513 and focused solely on the most visible vintage sellers to move into a 1665 Sea Dweller and 1680 Red Sub (both from HQ Milton).  I wore the 1665 and Red Sub a lot for about 5 years or so before getting a little bored with them (and specifically with always having to redo the date when they sat for too long as my collection grew and newer watches got more wear).  Anyway, I made good money selling or trading both of the 1665 and Red Sub a couple years ago and then have sat on the sidelines as vintage Rolex continued to skyrocket.
With the pandemic, I have been almost exclusively working from home and wearing light watches on straps, and have been re-thinking vintage even with the skyrocketing prices.  I thought about another 1665 or Red Sub, but like the idea of something without a date and so have been focused on the 5513 for ease of use, comfort , etc....

After seeing this one and confirming it was a birth year 1972 serif dial with original punched papers, well I could not resist.  In person, the dial is immaculate for closing in on 50 years old, and the case has been polished but not overly so.  The bracelet is an older, period correct folded link 9315 bracelet with 380 endlinks that I will keep, but I will likely look for a newer 93150 Sub bracelet with 580 endlinks for day to day wear, and I have my eye on a couple couple leather and suede straps for it as well.

Anyway, some quick pics with an emphasis on the dial in bright sun!

If I had option to buy a new Rolex- your green model would be the one for sure. Love the black dial and green bezel. My brother had a Kermit long ago when you could buy them at the AD and I always loved that one.
