Unique way to handle 31 days.
The Dial
Stylish and easy to read, the galvanized, anthracite-colored dial with a sunburst finish and hour markers coated with white fluorescent paint.
The circular opening above the 6 o'clock hour mark offers a view of the deep red calendar indication on exactly one day a month. We took a deliberate decision against the historically inspired form and developed our own calendar pointer. If the pointer tip points to "30", the arrow-shaped counterweight at the end of the pointer points to the calendar indication window - so it is discreetly pointed out that the red calendar indication will indicate the last day of the month.
The Calendar Indication
Calendar days 1-30 are displayed by the pointer moving at around midnight to the corresponding date. At the change of date from the 30th day of the month to the last day of the month, the calendar pointer remains at 12 o'clock and the indicator display at 6 o'clock changes to red. At the beginning of the month, the red disappears and the date pointer advances to 1. Fast setting of the date is made via the crown.
Pointer Calendar - rethought
The pointer date is the most classic display of the date on a wristwatch. A hand with a specially shaped pointer tip points to the corresponding date. The numbers 1 to 31 are printed on the dial. This scaling does not harmonize with the 60 minute division of the watch. As the month progresses, the scaling of the minute track and date spread further apart - this considerably disturbs the dial symmetry and makes conventional wristwatches with a pointer date more difficult to read.
With the Kalendar 31 and the mechanism used for the first time on a wristwatch, the designers at Guinand combine the traditionally elegant calendar display with a pointer with the innovative display of the 31st day of the month via an indicator window at 6 o'clock. There has never been such a function in a wristwatch - for the inventor of the basic idea and Guinand incentive to implement such a function with the means of classic watchmaking in a mechanical movement.
So the date hand is moving on once a day exactly two minute markers. The date hand in the middle of the month is exactly at 6 o'clock and not at 20 minutes after 5 o'clock as with conventional hand calendars.

Matt, that is so cool, and you know what?! Was going to say it was neat to see
a different, or innovative way to display the date. But then read that the pointer
date is actually the most classic of ways to display the date on a watch.
Yowza, so not only is it a beautiful, as well as super cool watch. But it's another
day of learning that's in the books ! Thank you sir !!!
