New Breitling Superocean Heritage '57

Post by AtomicTom » Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:55 pm

Not sure if everyone had time to catch the new Breitling Superocean
Heritage '57?

The watches actually pay tribute to the 1957 Breitling Superocean. With
details like a 38mm stainless steel case, 100m WR, AR coated convex
sapphire crystal, black, or blue dials with with SLN coated hands, and
markers, the Breitling Cal. B10 Automatic (ETA 2892 or Sellita SW300),
plus stainless steel mesh bracelet, and leather straps.

Just a few pictures...

They're Hodinkee sized, so a certain crowd will love them.

I like the fitted mesh. Hate the circular indices that have spikes through them. Hour hand is pretty bad too.

Wow. Those markers. If they just changed that, it’d make a huge difference.
They were always getting crap for their large cases, I guess they listened
Maybe 40-41 would have sufficed but it seems smaller Watches are the thing nowadays

Not for me, but I love that they are shaking things up a bit.

38mm with that quarter inch bezel, what’s the dial size like a Doxa? Fail

I literally have not considered breitling for a while. I like the look of their watches but the lug to lug on their watches tend to be a bit much for me. I agree that they could have just done 40 or 41mm...or even just leave other case diameters alone and shorten the lugs...I dont mind the 38mm size, usually not my preference on a sport watch though. Dial doesnt bother me that much...

The Hodinkee article mentions its 42mm. Watch Fred commented on IG that case is actually 38mm. So the bezel extends out 2mm all around??? That just seems odd to me. Maybe it’s one to see in the flesh before passing judgement but proportions are strange. The concave bezel makes it look more off.

The bezel overpowers the design.

Not sure about the bezel overhang, but I kind of like the all stainless version (not the rainbow dial). Seems pretty true to the original.

Honestly does look true to the original like Steve said, and what
amazes me, is I really don't remember seeing the original watch
before. Or this design, or look I mean. :o

So have to say, am actually liking it. Because it seems so different,
and doesn't seem to have been done by any of the other watch
companies. Plus it's not crazy, or over the top imho. Just is a nice
change of pace, and all while paying tribute to an older watch. :)

So cool seeing what you guys thought about this one. Thanks so much !!

I don’t like the indices at 12,3,6,9. I thought Breitling was going to focus on their primary pieces but seems like they are back to making a lot of pricey watches, especially if they have the inhouse movement.
