Don’t forget that they flag almost all of their ships with flags of convince to avoid US CG regs and crews. It saves them millions per ship per year. That’s why every Alaska cruise has to stop in a foreign port (Victoria) before coming back to the US. It’s also why passengers have fewer protections than they would on US flagged ships.

Yup. When you really look into the cruise industry, the business practices are pretty awful. Part of me honestly wouldn't mind seeing them go under, but it would mean a lot of people losing their jobs.

On a personal level, a cruise has never appealed to me. And while the true horror stories are rare, I'm sure, hearing about them has done nothing to change my opinion.
I took a cruise as a kid. I started shitting nonstop on the second day and it didn't stop until I went home. Fuck those guys.
Speaking of which (not the shitting part, specifically):

Maybe any potential bailout should exclude cruise companies using ships using flags of convenience.

Our Government here in Australia, last night announced the nationwide closure of all restaurants, pubs/bars, clubs, casinos, gyms, churches/places of worship, cafes. All of the beaches in Sydney are closed, you may have seen images from Bondi Beach. Take out/way is permitted, but no seated patrons in any establishment.

Overnight whole sectors of the employment community have been snap frozen closed.
Sounds like California.
I don't know my bro went to the The Strand for a walk with his family and he said 10x of people were there. So he left. He also said the city banned walking on the green (grass) path in front of his house. Crazy

Fixed for you. Interesting article (I am not super familiar with the source), but it states much of what is covered on the topic. In short, the cruise industry is highly skilled in avoiding taxes in the US, but frequently they benefit from the services our government provides (kind of like Amazon).

Lot of hatred out there. Before Fox, conservatives didn’t hate liberals. Promoting hatred is their stock in trade. More hatred equals higher ratings.

Have you seen “The Loudest Voice”? It’s the biography of Fox founder Roger Ailes. Great series with Russell Crowe at his best. It really was illuminating.

I apologize again to those who find my posts offensive. But so what if one thread is a political discussion? It is titled Global Slow Down. We can handle it. As long as we keep the hatred and insults down. Verbal vomit? Did you even read my last two posts? What wasn’t true?

Thank you to the Mods for allowing this.
Let's not forget that the left's motto has always been the ends justify the means, or as Rahm Emmanuel said "never let a good crisis go to waste, use it to further your agenda." At the end of the day China owns this, period. They jailed not only the doctor that discovered it, but also journalists that tried to get the word out in Nov.

And regardless of what yo may say the media in this country in large part pushes a leftist agenda.

IMO opinion the left in this country has been and is practicing a scorched earth policy disregarding everything in an effort to get rid of a dully elected president. Once again this shouldn't surprise anyone as their motto has always been the ends justify the means, just look at the Cavanaugh hearings to see it on full display. I'm out of this thread bg

PS the ends justify the means on display :

It's not a matter of whether or not I agree with you (or anyone else here) politically. We get assaulted by political animosity on a regular basis, so many of us come to forums like this for relief from all the crap. I've seen it before. Politics is toxic to forums that aren't founded for political discussion and political forums are, by their very nature, war zones. I no longer frequent a cigar forum that has become obsessed with politics. Most of the members I liked have also disappeared. Years ago, the forum owners restricted political posts, but eventually gave in to pressure and now the place is a fucking toilet.

They failed to report public school teachers who came down with it and still showed up to teach. The union is PISSED.

Any honest person, left or right, would admit that this guy is a fucking disaster.

It doesn’t surprise me that HHC (NYC Public Hospital System) waited until it was too late to order supplies.

As for the schools, Cuomo closed them because DiBlasio wouldn’t. NYC has more people infected with Covid19 than South Korea. They really ignored the issue until it was too late.

Last I heard, 30% of the cases in this country are in NYC. It’s painful for me to think of him having that job.

New York City has the most visitors of any city in the USA about 60 million a year from around the world . You have people flying in to it from Europe like Italy coming back to the states and tourists probably why they have the most cases does not take a brain scientist to figured that out plus 2 months were maybe fed inspections for this shit for any one interring the country there’s a lot of blame to go around Washington had a 2 month warning. Some one dropped the ball oh it was a hoax.

Sunday my state had 34 cases today at 45 cases and a prison guard in my state got it. So law enforcement be careful and EMS and fire and and in the medical field also be careful. My state 10 or more per day it will get bigger and we have a low population. The county in my state were the major airport is had the most cases most likely from travelers. And it’s starting to spread locally none travelers now. So how’s your state doing with cases ? If they had more test there would be a larger jump across the nation. So since none travelers are starting to get it the fed rule you had to have traveled to one of those foreign countries effected by the virus to be tested kind of out the window there just using that as a excuse since there not enough testing kits they got caught with there pants down.

Another reason is because the local and state government were slow to react. NYC handled this as poorly as it possibly could.
People are still mingling and up until this past weekend, you would never have guessed that there was a pandemic.
Can’t blame the federal government for this one.

NYC was the last place that I heard of to close their school system. After Michigan. After Ohio. After tiny ass Ithaca NY. Yeah, Trump was the problem.

It's fine not to like the guy, but don't beclown yourself over it.

How come Europe got more testing getting done and they have less people to test than the USA President Truman once said the buck stops here a lot of truth there. Testing the key in stopping this from spreading.

That seems to be de blasio's argument, though it's undermined by the fact that he's a feckless dipshit on every front. Even ultra scumbag Gavin "I fucked my buddies wife while on the clock" Newsom managed to do a seemingly decent job.

That’s the fundamental issue between the two parties, state sovereignty and big government.

However, they never made those claims. Diblasio refused to close the schools and Cuomo refused to have people shelter in place. Neither blamed Trump until everything hit the fan.

The irony is that Cuomo may end up being the Dem with the best chance of winning in November.

Not sure what testing will do. There isn’t much to do to treat this.

You answered you own question, smaller countries with smaller populations, that are more dependent on the government to take care of them.

A three day old dog turd left in the sun has a better chance of winning than anyone currently running for the Democrat nomination. Cuomo would be a million times more competitive than either of those geriatrics.

Biden is a shell of his former self. He’s had at least two aneurysms and is showing some cognitive issues.
He’s the great hope for the democrats right now.
