wristwatches with pocket watch movements

Post by caesarmascetti » Thu Feb 06, 2020 2:03 pm

Hi guys just curious why we don't see more of these. With the advent of large watches I would think more people would have done this by now. I had a pilots watch made that uses a Hamilton 917 size 10 pocket watch movement. The movements are beautifully made, very sturdy the fragility of these is overstated especially these hamilton movements, and they're not expensive to assemble. The watch below is a 44mm Pilot case hands dial etc all from
https://www.helenarou.com/hamilton.html. All in this cost me about $650 I'm just surprised we don't see more of these:

It really is true Caesar, and not only do the watches look extraordinary
from front to back. But it's just an awesome way to use such terrific
movements again.  ..Think we will see it more, and more.
With so many movements being out there, and cool new companies
like this popping up also.

What a neat idea, and phenomenal pick-up ! A giant congrats 2 U here !!! :)

Most pocket watch movements don't have sufficient shock protection to function in a wrist watch - that's why it's not more common.

Yes JP I had heard this as well. According to my watch guy this has been blown out of proportion especially with these Hamilton size 10 calibers. As I said Ive worn this one in rotation for 3 years doing everything from using a two stroke snow blower with it on and other things that would produce vibrations and to this point it runs great with no issues

Didn’t you do a Pam once? I really liked that one and thought about making one but don’t have the expertise.

reply yes I have a PAM type homage. The only downside to these movements are their size, so you'll never fit one in a case with sub proportions so your limited in style. Here is my Pam homage case, sorry I suck at photography

I'm thinking of another pilots watch built, looking at a Hamilton 921 movement even higher grade than the 917 and beautiful. DO I really need another watch?

1 for each day for the week..... how many do you have?

I actually love these Hamilton and 6497/8 powered watches. Robust and workhorses!

well I did it. Picked up a Hamilton 921 movement. A more refined 917 with additional jewel counts and further refinement
