Pelagos vs U1

Post by jimyritz » Thu Feb 06, 2020 12:41 pm

Welcome comments on wearability, How the Pelagos wears versus the U1, both on the bracelet.

The Pelagos is 42MM case 50MM L to L
U1 is 44MM 49MM L to L...

Thanks
Mike

I’d say they wear about the same, with the exception of the substantial weight difference.
Tudor’s clasp beats Sinn all day, though.

If on bracelet, Pelagos FTW

If you’re gonna strap on, U1

I’ve become accustomed to the U1Pro on a Maratac Zulu strap.

I had both at the same time.

I felt the Pelagos wore better, but after a while decided to keep the U1 and move out the Pelagos; preferred the dash of red on the U1.

Pretty much wear the U1 on straps, the Kobold is my current favorite.

I have them both, and these are my feelings as well. They are about the same size and wear the same. There is a major weight difference - everytime I pick up the U1 I'm struck by how heavy it is. But really, after you put it on it is a non issue.

I'm planing on whittling my collection down to maybe 6 watches this year. I'm keeping both the U1 and Pelagos though.

Pelagos vs U1

If you’re concerned about wearing it all day and for comfort, 110% Pelagos.
You’ll be surprised how light weight it is on bracelet. I felt the Pelagos and ezm 10 wore very similar.

The u1 on bracelet is a beast. I loved the U1P that I had- and hope to get it back at some point- but it was def a watch I would have to rotate. I cannot wear it consistently for too many days. I also struggled wearing it on nato because of its heft. It slid around quite a bit. I settled on the bracelet because it stayed put on the wrist and didn’t move around which helped a lot. It also added a lot of weight.

I have had both, and love both. For a daily wearer, the Pelagos is better. But while everyone talks about how austere/stark/teutonic the U1 is, I found the Pelagos fit that better. The U1 just has that little bit of extra pop (the red accents mainly) that make it a little more playful. If it's a regular U1 vs a Pelagos, go Pelagos. But I'd take (and did) a U1P over both of them. Also, the Pelagos is the largest 42 mm watch ever made, I think. Wears at least as large if not larger than the U1.

Really?

I haven't had a U1 for a while now. Last one I had was a SDR, and that thing felt huge, and that was coming from the Ploprof.

I daily the Pelagos, and love it for exactly that austere/stark/teutonic etc, etc, etc.

The 757 UTC wore similar in size to the Pelagos IMO.

I think so, but maybe I’m just misremembering. At any rate, I do think the U1 wears really well for its size. But it’s not a small watch.

Both awesome watches but I think the Pelagos on bracelet is a much better choice for everyday wear, lighter and more comfortable. I love mine but I do also love the U1, I don't have one at the moment, I have a UX GSG9 but will probably go after the U1 again. You might want to try a Sinn EZM3 or 3F.

Mark

I wore both of these daily for close to a years, at different times. Two of my favorite watches of all time. Sold both due to a growing desire for smaller, more comfortable watches. I would kill for a 40mm version of the U1 Pro or the Pelagos. Either would be the ultimate daily wearer for me.

U1 wears better with shirt sleeves. Feels thinner and shorter lugs, but it is heavy. I was always aware of it's presence on my wrist. The Pelagos is light and feels more comfortable, but the slab sided design gradually wore on me. Incredibly designed watch though. They thought of everything with this one. Just wish it was smaller. I agree that it felt like a bit 42mm.

Depends on whether you like the extra heft of the U1 I guess.

I got rid of my Pelagos (a mistake) a while ago, but looking at this wrist shot, it did seem to wear relatively large (on my 7.5" wrist)

Similar to the U1

I have both, and think the Pelagos on the bracelet is more wearable than the U1. I would also give the edge to the Pelagos on their respective rubber straps as well. I haven't tried any other type of leather/nylon straps for either one, so I'm not sure on that one. That being said, there is something about the presence of the U1 on the bracelet that I really love. I am really digging the Pelagos on this configuration right now.

Pelagos vs U1

I have the Pelagos and had a U2. The U2 was definitely heavy and felt bigger. I also have the ezm10 which wears really well. It’s a much bigger feeling watch but quickly disappears on your wrist. That being said I now am leaning more heavily to titanium.

One other thing, which may or may not matter to you: a tegimented U1 will look newer much longer than a Pelagos.

So I have never had the pleasure of trying on a U1 - love the Sinn offerings but you can’t really run down to an AD and try one on Image. My almost daily for the last year has been a Pelagos. Absolutely love the way it wears. It’s hard to get it off the bracelet (just wears so well), but I have put it on Terry’s Shiznits a few times. Wore great with the lighter weight of the Ti and looked awesome. Thought it really brought the tool watch out. I’ll find a pic and throw it up on here.
