Kind Of Interesting
I got a pm last Friday from a recently joined member with zero posts:
I saw on a post on here that you ended up ordering a Scurfa MS 19 and I was wondering if I could buy it off you. My dad is a super big watch guy and has been wanting this watch for so long yet has been unable to get his hands on it, so for his 50th birthday we are trying to surprise him by getting it for him. I’m willing to pay $400 for it if necessary because this watch is super special to my dad and very hard to find online. Please consider selling it and I’m happy to negotiate prices for more if necessary. Thanks!
Long story short; I sold the watch via PP family and friends.
Nice to sell a watch and do a good deed all in one shot.

Re: Kind Of Interesting
Good on you!
I've done something similar on ebay.
I had a quartz Eterna I bought with my own neighborhood lawnmower money as a kid way back on a family Royal Caribbean cruise on the Song of America at St. Thomas. Cheesy watch in hindsight but I was all of 13yo. At 13, that watch was the cat's meow in all it's TT plated gold glory!
I listed it on ebay years ago knowing nobody on the boards would bite, but got a similar message from a grieving daughter who recently lost her father, and remembered the exact watch her father wore, but was nowhere to be found. I actually talked with her over the phone and was convinced... not like it was a watch to covet anyway. I sold it as the reserve price of $120 and she was ecstatic. I replaced the battery and had it pressure check even as she cried over the phone.

Yup. That was my first instinct too. Sounds scammy. Glad it worked out!Knome wrote:it's a nice change of pace to hear when an unsolicited message like this isn't some kind of scam is a great thing for both ppl

Didn't realize that they were so scarce that someone would be willing to pay $400. or more for one.
