How much value is lost missing OEM box with Sinn?

Post by Panerai7 » Sat Jan 25, 2020 3:30 pm

Decided to sell my Sinn 142 and can’t find the box
Turned the whole house upside down, nothing.
Was purchased by me from WB 18-19 years ago.
How much value do I lose selling watch only?
Thanks guys

I’d say you lose at least $4k. But I’ll happy give you $1k for it and I’ll just absorb that myself as a favor to you. Lol

Maybe you can order just a box?
I would email WB & Sinn to see if it can be done.

I don't think the box is terribly important, but it sounds like the papers are missing as well and that could have an effect on resale. Guessing here, but maybe a few hundred bucks?

I'm sure A few DAS would make up for all that :headbang:

10-15%. Your solid rep will make up for some of that.

Agreed. You don’t wear the boxes or papers. And after expiration, there’s 0 reason to have papers anyway imo.

Authentication I suppose, although it can't be hard to fake the papers if you can fake the watch ;) But the lack of papers could make it harder to resell down the road, so I'd offer less to compensate if I were buying a watch without papers

I agree with this. But in our small circles, his reputation is worth as much as the papers are. If I’m buying from someone who I don’t know or haven’t dealt with, no papers gives me pause unless they are well known across multiple forums by others when I check references.

Yeah exactly - it’s adjustment for the “harder to move” factor for me on the buying end - but generally that’s like 10% on a modern used watch.

The people who are going to buy that Sinn won’t give 2 shits about paperwork. It’s not a Rolex or Pam. Different crowd.

I think you're being a bit naive. Most buyers (perhaps DWCers are the exception) will look for any excuse to finagle a discount, and lack of B&P is one of the most common - and not just for Rolex and Panerai. I'd expect Art to take some hit when selling.

Maybe. They don’t go up for sale often, so I’m sure he’ll do just fine on the price. If I could I would go for it, it’s a very good example of a Sinn Classic. So it’s hard to determine when you only see a few for sale each year.

The buying crowd these days suck! They do believe box & papers make a watch more valuable. Which is not a way to authenticate a watch. I had multiple offers for the papers from my Rolex ODB. Fakers buy fake papers all the time. They prove absolutely nothing. Buy the seller.

Yes exactly I’d sell here and stand a 100% behind it’s authenticity with BOD, I wood just hate to lose hundreds for a black paper box and 18year old receipt. Shoot I need to look again I guess

This should stay here. Period. Why waste time with the WUS crowd whining and making shitty offers...

Those who know you and your rep aren’t worried about the lack of dated, missing papers and boxes. If you DO list elsewhere, mention $250 has already been deducted from what you would have asked had the set been complete.

Rant over.

How much value is lost missing OEM box with Sinn?

Post by Chocodove » Sat Jan 25, 2020 7:35 pm

For that Sinn I wouldn’t care about papers. Sure it would be nice and I’d expect to pay a little less without them, but wouldn’t be a dealbreaker. I could not care less about the box for any watch, regardless of what it is.

Papers matter for a potential warranty on a newer watch or if it’s an easily “frankened” watch like a 16610LV but even then they can be easily faked as said.

Sinn has just about the worst boxes in the business, so I don’t think it’ll be bad.

Sure, boxes and papers would be nice, but for a watch this age I would expect them to be the exception, not the norm.
