Divers watch thrift shop find - Mariner divers watch, any help appreciated

Post by simonclough » Fri Jan 10, 2020 10:25 pm

Hi all, I came across the following watch at an op shop (thrift shop) in Australia. I have searched the internet, with little success. Any idea of this model and brand would be appreciated. It is labelled as Mariner, the triangles have pro dive labelled on it. The back has labelled 20ATM Japanese Movement.

Looks like a Seiko case and I bet a Seiko movement. Maybe a early boutique watch co were Seiko supplied some parts and another company the dial and hands. Kind of like most boutique watch co do today. And long out of business and short lived so you mite have a hard time finding any thing about it. Mite be cool to own you will have a watch no one else has and I bet a great price coming from a thrift shop. Could be a off brand sold at dive shops like scuba pro branded watches.

Found this. Perhaps reach out with a picture and they can provide some Providence. Looks like, according to their site, they have been around a long time and re-invented. Good luck with the search. Cool old dive watch too.

Thanks for the replies, well it looks like my $5 Australian, paid off. Thanks for the suggestions re Seiko. Looking at the back of the watch I am thinking that it might be a SKX007, I dont think that it is an automatic. I will take it to a jeweller tomorrow to get the back taken off. I will keep you posted with what I find. Thanks again

Cool watch. Is it not working? If so, sweeping seconds hand - automatic. Ticking - quartz. I would think most likely quartz as there is no "Automatic" text on the dial or case back, but who knows?

Okay, I got the watch opened, it is Miyota movement. Unfortunately not the seiko i was hoping for. Still for $5 i guess it is still a bargain.
