Guinand

Post by Chocodove » Mon Jan 06, 2020 5:20 pm

I’m looking for something a little different to celebrate a life event later this month and I’m kind smitten with Guinand. Seem like an incredible value and those that own them on WUS love them. I think I have seen a few here over the years...thoughts?

I quite like the Duograph, but unsure how I’d feel about no running seconds after a while. I didn’t seem to mind on the 1.1 I owned for a little bit.

Pics stolen from the internet.

Tucker has one. Always speaks very highly of it.

As I understand it, it was started by Sinn (the guy) after selling Sinn the brand. I've always viewed it as the closet thing you can get to Sinn before they tried to go upmarket and more fancy. Every owner who's ever talked to me about the brand were big fans.

Exactly (though I think Sinn just bought it in the 90’s, the brand itself had been around for decades and actually made watches for Sinn the brand previously). Had my eye on a 103 or the Type IV LE, but these are an interesting alternative to me.

Thanks, Todd - now you have me looking at a Series 40!

They seem like a pretty good option, with solid specs and offered in a reasonable size. Even configured with some extra’s, the watch I looked at was well under $2k.

I was thinking it reminded me of Sinn...not sure what they use for movements, but if they are standard and they dont have that moisture capsule or the Ar gas (like Sinn sometimes uses)...you could really get it serviced anywhere which is a plus.

I like the look a lot. Havent ever really investigated these.

:) The Duograph comes in at under $1.6k shipped. Not bad at all for what you are getting.

Most are the 7750, so pretty standard.

I believe someone here has owned this one for a while:

I like Bund style watches so this one appeals to me:

Prices seem very reasonable.

This is nice too and in the 40.6mm case. Not sure about the glossy dial, though.

I've been tempted to buy the 60 with blue or orange hands.

I also like the 155 but wish it was closer to 39-40mm.

The 155 is beautiful, love the dial. It does sound a bit small, though, at 37.5mm and a 45mm L2L.

I chatted with them via email today a bit, very responsive. That can do the specific Duograph configuration I like in a bead blasted case at no extra charge. Going to be hard to say no to this one.

This dial looks slightly gloss, but description says matte

That is so great how cool they were, or are Todd, and can evidently do
the bead blasting for nothing like that. :) It's really a breathtaking watch !
Yup, no need to say no I don't think. ..Give into the Guinand side. 8-)

Thanks Matt. That's too big for me, and stupidly they don't offer that design in a smaller size. It's a really good looking watch. It's like a Damasko but without the goofy shit that they always do to their watches.

Yep. I wish it was the smaller case. That would be my choice as well.

That DuoIndicator looks pretty cool. I like the seconds rotating disc at the 8 o’ clock position.
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.
