This is Grade 2 titanium, not Grade 5 - what’s the difference?
For the price I would hope Grade 2 is better than Grade 5 but I have no idea?!?

It seems like Grade 2 is often chosen for it's resistance to corrosion.
Re: Coming in 2020. Omega 007 Watch
I like it, but I don't $9200 like it. Too damn $$$$.

The older SMP titanium was Grade 2 and the excellent titanium PO 8500 and 8900 models were Grade 5. I’ve owned both. Grade 5 looks more like stainless, whereas Grade 2 is the color of what we expect from titanium (think Panerai).rockmastermike wrote:This is Grade 2 titanium, not Grade 5 - what’s the difference?

I believe Grade 5 is harder to work with, but polishes up better and holds its finish longer than Grade 2.
Grade 2 will develop more “patina” with time and this is likely why it was chosen for a watch with a dial & bezel that are intended to age.

I'm with Wu on this one. Partly because I'm a shameless suck-up, but mostly because I think it's a really good looking watch. The price is ridiculous, but it's a Bond watch, and Omega always prices those higher than their normal stuff.
Now, if you want to discuss the ridiculous number of LE's Omega does, or the fact that METAS is just something they made up, those are whole other issues...

Re: Coming in 2020. Omega 007 Watch
I keep coming back to the quote Joe mentioned earlier from the Hodinkee article: "the dial and bezel are made from an Omega-specific form of lightweight anodized aluminum and Omega has confirmed that both elements will fade over time"
So, the dial and bezel insert are intentionally designed to fade.
Fade to what? Brown? Tan? Grey? Will they fade equally, or will the bezel insert fade more rapidly than the dial due to the AR coated sapphire?
How long before the fading begins? I can just envision people putting these things under UV lambs for days on end in order to achieve just the "right" patina.
It's all academic to me anyway. I'm far from this product's target demographic.

It looks so wrong with aged lume. I’m still a fan of the style but if I was going to get another with skeleton hands it would be the original 2531.80 or a 2220.80.

Sure, but those design elements are featured on all of the Seamaster 300's (the peanut butter cup being a more recent addition).

Re: Coming in 2020. Omega 007 Watch
Right, I'm not saying that the recent addition of these things have killed the watch for me, they always have. Which is why I prefer the BP.
Re: Coming in 2020. Omega 007 Watch
Honestly looks very nice imho, and really like it on that NATO !
It's definitely a little different overall, but it's fun seeing all of the
different incarnations of all of the James Bond watches. Next time
the watch could be very different, or maybe these will grow on
people. Either way, really appreciate the look sir. ..Thanks a lot !

That's fair, and the BP is a nice looking watch (with a date!). I've never been a huge fan of the scalloped bezel on the Seamaster, but I think the overall color scheme on this particular watch works well (and they dropped the "Bond" bracelet for this one, which I've never particularly liked).logan2z wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 10:09 amRight, I'm not saying that the recent addition of these things have killed the watch for me, they always have. I'll second this. The Speedy is a fine watch; legible and very aesthetically pleasing to my eye. But it also uses 40+ year old movement technology which hasn't been updated much at all. Horizontal clutch with a cam-lever. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, and the 1861 is very durable, but the Rolex 4130 is a true in-house movement with a vertical clutch and column wheel, and it's amazingly compact and thin (alas, Omega's Co-Ax chronograph movement is ridiculously thick, no matter how reliable or well-made it might be). Further, the 4130 has been regularly updated and improved since its inception.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 9:55 amAbsolutely, and I own both.
Aesthetics are a matter of choice (and I find the Speedy far more legible than the Daytona) but, from a mechanical POV, the Daytona wins easily. Is it worth what it's commanding on the market right now? No IMHO. Is it worth significantly more than the Speedy? I would say yes.

I'll pass. I'll keep my 2254.

Saw and tried that one
That watch is just all wrong
Omega looks better
And with the thick wide bezel BPFF doesn't work in 40mm.

The scalloped bezel and case shape are the best aspects of the SMP imo. I think, however, as I get older, I'm way-too picky over the smaller design elements of watches.

Re: Coming in 2020. Omega 007 Watch
Too much of a mish mash for me. It wants to look vintage with the beige lume and the broad arrow, but it’s got a ceramic bezel, the He valve, modern Seamaster hands, and that ungrippy bezel. Don’t get me started on the bracelet or the no-date.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.
