Longines Heritage Military 1938
Longines continues to churn out interesting Heritage reissues like the new Heritage Military 1938. The watch is 43mm in diameter (the same as the original) and 10mm thick. Movement is the Unitas 6498. Limited to 1938 pieces. Comes on either a leather or NATO strap. Priced at $2450.

That’s gorgeous. I’m amazed they didn’t modify the movement to have a date display.

That’s a clean watch.

I like it a lot. It’s good looking and has a somewhat interesting movement. It’s too big for me, but at least it’s historically sized and not stupid fat.
I’d much rather have that than whatever vintage inspired watch iwc is currently selling.

I agree that it looks really good. I know the size is based on the original, but that dial and bezel at 43mm is going to wear huge. I do really like the relative thinness of the case.
Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
nice looking watch, but hour hand seems kinda long?

interesting... never seen the OG version before... still think the hour hand's a bit long

This might be the first remake that’s better than the original
Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
Very clean.
Longines, like Oris, do reissues the right way

Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
That is sharp looking. It would probably wear much better at 40mm.
Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
I agree that it’s lovely, but being all dial it’ll wear huge. Credit to Longines as they also kept the LLD and Skin Diver true to original specs.

Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
Can you even get a Unitas 6498 into a 40mm case? I think the movement itself is almost 37mm across, so a 40mm watch with this movement would have case walls only 1.5mm thick.
An ETA 2824-2 is only about 26 mm wide which is why most of those aviator still watches in 40mm use this movement.
To get hand wind and 40mm, I think Longines would've had to use an ETA 2801-2. I'm pretty sure this is the movement Hamilton puts in their 38mm hand wind field watches.

Oh boy, they did such an amazing job on these it looks like Andrew !
It's usually impossible to improve upon an original, but these may have
done that. ..Thanks so much for the news !
First time seeing them sir.

Stowa did it in a 41mm case.Ryeguy wrote:Can you even get a Unitas 6498 into a 40mm case? I think the movement itself is almost 37mm across, so a 40mm watch with this movement would have case walls only 1.5mm thick.

That is probably as small as practical a case for that movement. Those mid case walls are only about 2mm thick which doesn't leave much material to cut threads into for screwing down the case back or mounting the bezel.CGSshorty wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 11:06 amStowa did it in a 41mm case.Ryeguy wrote:Can you even get a Unitas 6498 into a 40mm case? I have a 6498 in a 40.5mm watch.
Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
Everything I've read says that movement is 36.6mm wide (https://wornandwound.com/caliber-spec-unitas-64976498/)pbj204 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 11:55 amRyeguy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 9:49 amCan you even get a Unitas 6498 into a 40mm case? I have a 6498 in a 40.5mm watch.
40.5 - 36.6 = 3.9mm Divide that by 2 and you have a mid case wall thickness of only 1.95mm thick (and that is assuming perfect machining with no gap for tolerance variances).
A quick google search shows Tourby claiming a 40.5mm 6498 watch, but I'd guess it is either (a) closer to 41 than 40 in diameter or (b) a very delicate watch.

Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
This looks fantastic. Well done, Longines.
Re: Longines Heritage Military 1938
They seem to have a watch with the same name released in 2013 w auto movement, date and 40mm. Bit confusing. This one is a stunner though.
