Your Worst Sales Decision

So, back in 2001, before I knew any better, and a watch was just a watch I had these two:
I was living in Geneva—you know, the motherland—and decided I wanted a new Panerai 025, so I decided to sell those two, for which I had paid a grand total of $1540 new for...wait for it...$1500. Thought I was doing okay. Hindsight being horrifying, anyone else wish they could erase their memories?

So many memories, so many mistakes. Rather than share my stories I’ll just go sit in the tub and run scalding water on my sack.

Only two none you guys would keep. A WW1 Depollier water proof wire lug wristwatch was rare only one ever offered to me for sale. And a WWW British issued Timor I got for 450.00 both watches have went up a little in price. I am a pack rat so still got most of my favorites. But I miss those two sold them due to the move to Montana thinking I would not have enough to get by I was wrong should of kept them.

I've never sold a watch I regret. They all get sold for a good reason, or they don't get sold.

Not buying a 16710 back when they could be had for under $5,000. Other than that, I've parted with some that have appreciated markedly since I sold them, but I got a fair price for them at the time, so...

This thought was driven by the desire to pick up another like-vintage GMT, then saw what current prices are. Really the only sale I regret.

lol let me count the ways...
I've sold (at a loss, even then) numerous Pams, Omegas, Rollies, etc... I've literally lost tens of thousands of dollars over the years. Thanks for ruining my Monday...

Like others, hindsight is 20/20 .....the “pre-bubble” Rolex madness where I could have paid for a year or two of my kid’s college by now
With that out of the way, it’s no secret that I rotate often and eventually sell them anyway, however there have been one or two that I sold too soon and wish I would’ve enjoyed them for a little while longer before letting them go.

these 2 definitely hurt the worst... paid ~$2500 for each nearly 20 years ago... sold both a couple years later for ~$5k each... doing well, right? wrong...
they both bring around 10x that now
thanks for the memories

Just dropped my sack alongside yours.

I’m sorry, it sounded like you said you haven’t sold anything yet. That makes no sense (here).

You sold an awesome blue Tudor Sub. Not being able to buy that one is a big regret of mine.

I have some big ones (Patek 5980, 5726, 5164), but they're mostly around the hype pieces. Doesn't bother me too much. Can't predict the future, so why sweat it?

I don’t regret selling any. It was always the right decision at the time.

Yea, I have regrets...
Generally, I don’t suffer from buyer’s remorse - just seller’s remorse.
I regret selling good pieces at large losses and then buying them back again.
I do regret selling my Omega 2254.50 the most.
