New Aquadive Poseidon Bathyscaphe GMT 100 Limited Edition

Post by spring-diver » Fri Sep 20, 2019 9:47 am

I’ve been wanting to add a new Aquadive back to my collection for sometime now...I think this is itImage

With a pre order price of $1,395, it’s very tempting Image

Now that Aquadive has reduced the thickness from 15 mm to 12.5 mm it should be a much more wearable and not so top heavy. Maybe even a few grams lighter.

This Limited Edition also includes two Isofrane straps, one black and a yellow.

Apologies for the lo-res photos, they’re just screenshots.

^^^ Really not bad considering it includes 2 ISO straps.

I've been looking for a GMT diver of reasonable size. Maybe this is it.

I did just notice the dial says 1,000 meters water resistant and the description says 500 meters. Either is far beyond what I need, but curious discrepancy.

Proofreading is definitely not Aquadive’s strong point Image it’s 1000m WR.

I noticed this on their regular production descriptions.

I’m stoked they made it thinner! Image

It is the nicest Aquadive I have seen so far. I am just not the biggest fan of that case - which is used in many places (I may like the eterna kon tiki version the best).

So lets see.

Aquadive is going the way of the logo. Black Lung is next I would gather. Or maybe other dial colors (think yellow). And then without the logo.

Hmmm....kinda makes you think what the beef was with the previous US doxa team, and Doxa and their new direction (and by the way, has been all positive for me so far with the new service model and US team). Not that I am trying to stir the pot...but maybe I am....and I could be missing something completely....

Looks so nice, and wow, the colors, and that Poseidon logo add such
a cool attitude on top of everything. This would be an awesome way
to get back into Aquadive that's for sure. Fantastic sir !!! :excited: :)

I’m not much on logos and I don’t need a GMT, but I like the Aquadive stuff. This looks to be the existing 100 case with higher water resistance. The 100 case is very wearable.

Maybe...

I just figured they down graded the specs a bit regarding the depth rating to reduce the thickness a bit and also reduce the cost a bit.

If it is just a typo and the watch has the same specs (other than thickness) as the old Bathysphere 100GMT, why on earth would someone pay $1,999 for the non-logo version when they logo version is $600 less expensive (and comes with a spare strap)?

The pricing difference just raises some questions in my mind. There has got to be a reason the logo version is $600 less expensive.

I like it.

They also need to improve their email process...I’ve gotten four from them already today. All the same.

It's certainly curious. Generally, a deeper depth rating means a thicker case. One would think a thinner case with the same depth rating would cost more, rather than less (or at least the same).

The watch looks nice (though yellow isn't really for me), and I appreciate the thinner case and GMT function, but the discrepancy does raise questions.

On edit: I just received the email, and the text I received indicates 1,000 meters WR, so it matches what's on the dial. And while the pre-order price is $1,395, the email says the factory store price will be $1,890.

I had hoped for a GMT version of the model 50 case to mimic the depth gauge
I hope they sell heaps but this offer is not for me

Worn and Wound review says while the prototype shows 1000m and a helium valve between the lugs, the production model will be 500m without the HEV

That makes $600 worth of sense.

Does anybody actually like the 2893 implementation of GMT functionality?

The movement doesn't attract all that much. Not that interesting to look at. Unprotected crown. Partial bezel indexing. Meh.

I can see it being useful if you’re an attorney, banker, etc that engages in cross border transactions where you’re not traveling, but need to stay in contact with someone in another time zone. Or I guess for anyone who needs to contact people in other time zones for work.

So if I’m in the US and dealing with someone in Europe, I’d want to keep the standard hour hand on my local time zone but easily adjust the 24 hour hand to remind myself of my counterpart’s time zone (for phone calls mostly).

For travel, the Rolex style independent hour hand makes a lot more sense.

I don’t necessarily “like” it, but for a dual time mechanical movement in the “affordable” category, there aren’t many alternatives.

I’ve traveled quite a bit with a 2893-2 and it works. On the plus side, every example I’ve owned has been very accurate. It requires more fiddling to set the dual times, but it isn’t like you have much else to do while sitting in on the airplane. I just use my phone to monitor the correct time while I reset the watch.

The Alpina is absolutely a better affordable travel’s mechanical dual time watch with the movement backed by a global brand.

I also understand Berhardt modifies the ETA 2836-2 to remove the “day” function and convert that gear train to run a GMT hand. This supposedly provides the “true travelers GMT” function, but I’ve never tried one.
