Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
Quick question: My blue dial Rolex Deepsea (126660) + $9k for AP 15400st black dial? Both with box and papers and deal is with a reputable seller.

Nope.

Thanks. Money out of whack or just not a trade you’d make based on just the watches?

Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
Very Q&D research shows pre-owned black dialed 15400's listing in the neighborhood of $21,500 - $22,500 (man they've gotten expensive) and pre-owned Cameron DSSD's listing at around $13,000 - $14,000. So the dealer's offer doesn't sound horrible, and he's going to want to make a profit on your watch.
Two very different watches, though. If money were no object, I'd go with the AP because it's awesome and the DSSD is too big for me, but the DSSD is a hell of a nice watch and $9k isn't chump change.

It really comes down to which you prefer the design of. I imagine both will continue to escalate in value, but the real question is which would you prefer to wear?
Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
I say go for it if you like the 15400. I far prefer it to any deep sea. The numbers are reasonable.
Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
No way. Not with that much cash added.

Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
So I’ve been thinking about it awhile and I’m happy with the DS and it is a helluva watch. I do have a regular SD (16600) and a 16710 and I find myself wearing those two as much as the DS.
I think the $9k seems maybe a little heavy his way but not that much based on what I’ve seen but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I’ll probably counter with a reasonable amount if I decide to do it.
They are very different but since I have the SD it makes some sense (as much as these things ever do...).

Seems about $1k heavy.
Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
It’s a big chunk of cash to add, but if you love the 15400...

$9k is a hell of a price to add to upgrade a watch. Especially to go from SS 3-handed to SS 3-handed.

Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
Do you want a dainty sports watch that shows every single scratch? From a value perspective, APRO is strong now and DSSD is much less inflated.
Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
If you could reduce the cash a bit.
Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
Sounds about right. Also, As a 5 1/2 year owner of an AP RO, don’t pay any attention to the comments about the RO be fragile or scratch magnets - they are no more or less than a Rolex IMHO.SoCal C4S wrote:Seems about $1k heavy.

If they’re so robust, why did you knock off the factory edges getting it polished before selling?
The person who probably shouldn’t be listened to is the guy who’s trying to cash in on the current craze.

Hey JP - let me sugar coat this for you. Fuck off!JP Chestnut wrote:If they’re so robust, why did you knock off the factory edges getting it polished before selling?

Why did I have mine refinished? For the same reason every watch I have serviced before I sell is refinished - because of OCD buyers who will try to negotiate after the sale for what you called “light desk diving scratches” they claim are gouges and threaten to ruin your reputation unless you send them some money back.
BOD discount still applies to others - except of course pompous pricks.
Re: Trade Proposal - Yay or Nay
LOL at both of the above. Love you both.
AP is definitely more fragile than Rolex, but worth the trade off. It’s an iconic design for any watch lover.
I agree with JP in this - both are definitely overvalued in the hype right now, but the AP more extremely so.
If you like the DSSD, I’d keep it. Catch an AP when the bubble bursts.

Thanks all - I agree, it seems rich but that’s more of a factor of the market for AP than this dealer’s pricing. I’ve always wanted a 15400 but not sure I can justify the trade with that much cash added.
Probably going to wait it out a bit but the itch is going to be there until I eventually get one.

I think it’s a good choice. You were able to get a 15400 for like $16,000 or $17,000 not that long ago. They are overvalued right now imho. OTOH the price on the Cameron has stayed pretty consistent (which is nice for a Rolex).goaliechris wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 1:02 pmThanks all - I agree, it seems rich but that’s more of a factor of the market for AP than this dealer’s pricing.
