Tropic Straps

Post by DEMO » Fri Aug 02, 2019 6:57 am

It looks like Tropic Straps is returning with their original strap design. The iconic "Tropic" brand strap looks like it is being resurrected once again. I just read an article about them over on TLex's OceanicTime. These look really good.

The Tropic website looks like isn't completely active yet, no pricing pages yet. It looks like it is owned by Isofrane, (same company).

Very cool. The article says the price will be $79, pretty reasonable.

If it’s the same material and finish as the original, I’m down.

This is intriguing. If they are similar in terms of rubber composition to the original Tropics, I'm in.

I was interested until I saw the length was only 185mm. Don't think it'll be enough for me. I've had one for a few years I bought on ebay, so-called "NOS," which I believe was made in Hong Kong. It has the "1820" markings on the inside. It's thin and supple, but I'm pretty sure it's good quality rubber, not a silicone lint magnet. The length is 195mm. I'm pretty sure the listing below is the same strap.

No, it's not Tourettes.

FWIW: the Watchgecko Tropic is stellar. The 20mm is only 120/70 but their 22mm is 133/80 and fits me. It’s also about $40 USD.

Hopefully they size it up for today’s larger wrist.

The material doesn’t look right in the pictures. Looks just like other reproductions. It’s all about the suppleness of the strap, the correct thickness, and the glossy top level finish.

I am dubious.

I was pretty impressed with it.

I have a few generic versions, fine style-wise, but not very flexible.

I might be interested if these were a lot more supple (and long enough).

I sent a message through their website, telling them that if they had one at least 200mm, I'd be a customer. I was surprised that I got a prompt response, explaining that a 50mm watch would make the length 235mm. I replied that I knew what length my wrist required and that 185mm without the watch would be insufficient for any wrist more than 7". I also thanked them for being so responsive.

Did they confirm its 185? If so they are hitting their own sales.

I also sent an inquiry via their site earlier today, but no answer.

You get the specs once you hit the buy link, which says 185mm. They stated in their response to me that a watch with 50mm length makes it 235mm, which confirms it.

Damn. At least we have the Watchgecko, but I’d have been in for each color of this one too.

Can’t wait to try these .

I do really like my gecko strap minus the generic blocky keepers.
