Couldn't afford it anyway but if I could I would have passed. The watch market is so strange... You'd think there would be long term repercussions for another whored-out Hodinkee release sold-out in minutes (likely pre-sold 90%+), but at the exponential rate in interest of these LE watches I'm uncertain. I can see Oris not taking a hit but Blancpain? For shame.

Watch market is nuts. I’ve given up making sense of it and stopped climbing the ladder price wise years ago. I went from aspiring to great things to spending more following Seiko’s price increases.

Admittedly Blancpain is on a different level, but there are a hell of a lot of Oris/Hodinkee watches languishing on the forums at the moment. Quite a few IWCs as well. Apparently they're not all a slam dunk.

I totally agree. I could either pay over MSRP for a boring square cased Rolex Sub or put a down payment on a brand new loaded Subaru WRX STi, or pay a crew of dudes to repaint my deck and add two flagstone retaining walls/planters to my front yard, or... a million other things since $12,000 is a shit load of money. How many watches does a person need? I think I'm getting to that point for a while.

I still like watches and DWC, but adding to my collection at $10,000-$15,000 a watch isn't as fun as it was when they were $3,000-$4,500.

Yeah I slowed way down not that I ever put huge money in watches much beyond $1k, but even affordables in demand that are scarce are starting to go stupid.

That said now I’m considering doing more to my truck. I did just buy the gold G-Shock square which I’m pretty pleased with, but now that some idiot smacked into my truck in a parking lot I’m considering upgrading the parts instead of going OEM and that could be my next rabbit hole for awhile.

I think that would be a big success. No one else has done a homage of this model, and it's one of the most interesting. 40mm is great, but it also has to be as thin as possible. There's no need for water resistance beyond 200m to 300m.

agree 100% I'd want it kept close to the OG just proportioned properly to the 40mm dia. I cant seem to find the specs (diameter etc) I'm assuming it's 38mm?

Or do ETA 2892. He doesn’t like the Sellita. High failure rate what he tells me. He’s got lots of ETA tho. Will people be willing to spend the extra ? I would. Reason he mentioned start with the 9015 because it’s comparable to 2892 in size and stem height and leaves open the option for ETA 2892 later.

Look at the Seaforth. There's huge demand for modest sized divers done well. Just use the eta 2892. People will pay for it. You should send Clemens your Seaforth to try. If he keeps it to those specs it will be a success.

Nailed it, I'm putting a sh#t tin of $ into my house ATM, I'll get a great place to live and a better return on my investment. As much as I like the Deep Blue, pre owned from the US it'll cost me just over $20K AUS, that's 2.5 weeks of trades working on my house.

Haha I’ve had an in depth conversation with him about the seaforth and it’s success purely because of its size. And with the quality he puts out he can easily make one far superior.
