New IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition Racing Green

Post by AtomicTom » Fri Jul 12, 2019 9:27 am

Just seeing IWC's new Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition Racing Green. How
about you guys?

The new watch has a 43mm stainless steel case, convex sapphire crystal,
water resistance of 6 bar, and sporty new British Racing Green sunray dial
with Super-Luminova coated markers, and hands, and Calibre IWC 79320
Automatic chronograph. Then straps look to be a cool brown leather too.

Here is a look...

That sucks ass. They should have just called it the “pilot’s hulk”.

That’s a lot of green.

I prefer the subtle Panerai green.

Never thought I would use “subtle” and “Panerai” in the same sentence but there you go.

Other than maybe RE-adding a base big pilot sometime in the future....I think I may be done with iwc on a whole.

I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man
Floating down canal
It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now

Something I've been wondering about for awhile is whether the SE/LE watches that a lot of companies are releasing (IWC, Seiko, Oris, Omega) are actually money makers, loss leaders, or just catering to a small group who the company knows will buy them. It seems to me that a watch like this would primarily appeal to someone who already digs IWC, knows something about its history, and is looking for something a bit more niche from than brand, rather than a first time buyer who knows little or nothing about them or who has just discovered them.

And something else - do we really need this many watches? Really?

I think they are just doing what everyone else is with green. Not my cup of tea...I like the IWC Spitfire non chrono. Why has it taken them so long to put an inhouse in the 40mm pilot case? Fairly disappointing as a brand.

I look at it as "shit, nobody can buy a green Rolex Sub at retail, so let's offer a green pilot watch and see if they buy that instead".

What I was thinking when I saw that green...

Which is strange to me, because people are buying a green Rolex as much or more for the fact that it's a Rolex than for the fact that it's green. But I freely admit I'm not a marketing expert (or amateur for that matter).
