Another T-Lex find - "PleAmar"

Post by giosdad » Tue Oct 26, 2010 5:27 am

I saw this on TLex's Blog. The Aquatimer Vintage (and the re-issue) as well as the JLC Polaris have always been favorites of mine. Their costs are restrictive to me so this could be a nice Alternative.

The thing that intrigues me is...this is not your run of the mill knock-off/homage/wannabe whatever microbrand piece...this is a forum watch. Pretty ambitious for a forum watch, at least from what I've seen in forum watches...nice looking too. I love the Super Compressor style.

Sorry, but it really does not do a lot for me. Don't dig the hands at all. Never been a big fan of internal bezels. :snooty:

Looks so damn much like the Longines model of the same style. I'm starting to grow very weary of rehash. :crybaby:

Just me.

It's in the same style as the Longines, but it seems IMO much more like the original 1967 (I think) IWC Aquatimer.

Here's the repo that IWC featured at Basel 2008.

Well this was a project done in my "old" watch forum FdR, designed by the members and "annexed" by the forum owner Pedro Izquierdo. A Legend Diver was sent to China to "get the inspiration" for the case, and the dial is an Aquatimer with Glasshutte hands. Really a mix... :stir:

I seen that when it popped up on the blog, iv bin thinking about it here and there since. May not be able to call it original in design but it looks sweat IMO.

And thus, a "homage" is born.

Exactly the ones I was referring to.

Definitely one of my favorite models but both the original and the re-issue are a bit pricey.

Looking at the PleAmar I love everything about it visually including the case-back design, but something about the case-back (Small diameter?) and how much it appears to protrude along with the lug angle makes me wonder if it would be uncomfortable on the wrist. The 42mm size with the internal bezel will make it appear much larger.

I don't know if it is the vintage Aquatimer design which I flip over or what. I was all over Mitch from Ocean7 to manufacture the "LM-5" design pictured here for over 2 years. The first being my favorite variation.I finally gave up after it went on and back off the drawing board for the third time.

I had evolved to a state that I had begun to swear off micro-brands and non-original designs to the point that when my other favorite vintage dive watch the Omega SM1000's "homage" was released I did not even consider it buying it. And here I thought I had this obsession figured out :stir: But I have to admit I have enjoyed wearing the Kingston this past week :bananastoner: (and yes a review and pictures are forthcoming) But meeting Bill and talking watches with him has me put him in another category :koolaid:

Yep. I followed some of the design process on FdR. I still think it's a cool looking LLD rip.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
