Ball Watch's Roadmaster Marine GMT

Post by AtomicTom » Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:05 am

Did everyone catch this new one from Ball Watch already?

The Roadmaster Marine GMT will have 40mm titnium case, 200 meter
water resistance, sapphire crystal, black, or blue dials with tritium tube
covered hands, markers, and numbers. In addition, you have a pepsi bezel
with Super-Luminova numbers, and markers, nice bracelet, or strap, and
the Automatic caliber BALL RR1203-C movement too.

Here is a look guys...

I'd rather they put their R and D into a ceramic Pepsi bezel, which is available from Deep Blue, Boldr and Parnis vs a module to jump the GMT hand. Ceramic bezel I'm in.

Value added by a ceramic bezel insert is questionable. Odd item to be a deal breaker for you. I prefer aluminum.

Coming up with a true jump-hour GMT with a day date could be very valuable to some people.

This does look good and at 40mm, much more wearable than some of their other huge watches. Pity day/ date is not same colour as dial but otherwise like everything about it

Something about the way the lugs meet that case is very cool.

I like this one but the Tritium tube watches always scared me some. Then again, you could have your batteries die in a watch you've just received, so there's that.

I'd post a joke about blue Balls, but that's low hanging fruit.

I didn’t realize there was a single person who actually cared about ceramic inserts. They’re brittle, often ugly, and expensive to replace.

I can’t think of a single watch that wouldn’t be better without one.

Not bad.

Why can’t Ball get the hands the proper length in their watches? The second hand is a bit stubby. That was my only real gripe with the Fireman Classic I had. They used the same hands as the old 38mm model on the 40mm.

I want to like it. Titanium, 40mm, 200M WR, and day-date. All big plusses for me. But, if they were going to play around with a movement, I wish the buttons adjusted the 12 hour hand instead of the GMT. The only downside to the Tritium tubes is that tritium has a definite lifetime, and that makes this not a life time watch unless Ball is prepared to replace them in 12-25 years. Then again, at my age, that probably does make it a life time watch.

They do appear to reach the ends of the hour markers. The large chapter ring makes them look stubby though.

I particularly question the durability of the ceramic used in the less expensive brands, but they’re all comparatively brittle and too blingy imho.

I don’t mind this watch. The crowns look normal as opposed to those found on a lot of Balls. And I like the size. The GMT is definitely having a moment.

At first glance I liked it, but the proportions look odd to me - the hands look stubby and I don't care for the gigantic 12, 6, and 9. They got the colors right though.

Glad so many of you guys are liking this one really. ..I know a lot of you
are on the fence about their watches in general from the tubes, and style
of the hands, to date, and even ceramic bezel here. Honestly also wonder
about how ceramic bezels actually are. I know they can break so easy like
you guys are saying.

Push Buttons to change the gmt hand is as stupid as a date driven by the gmt hand (like the old GO sport evolution gmt - I owned that watch for all of 30 seconds before realizing the fundamental design atrocity).

Agree 100%.

I just went from Boston to Denver to Dublin, Ireland all in this past week and I want my GMT hand to never move off of my home time. Putting a quick set on that hand is pointless.

The more I see GMT offering from other “affordable” brands, the more I appreciate Alpina for doing it right. Use only a single crown, quickset hour hand, date.
