Zelos Horizons GMT Review

Post by spring-diver » Thu May 02, 2019 10:01 pm

For the money, this has a lot going for it.

Boatswain at WUS did a great review on this one.

Thoughts?

Nearly 5500 words to describe a micro.
I’d rather flip my left nut until it was numb than read all of that nonsense.

Tired of micros. It’s so easy to start any old watch company these days.

I checked these at Wind Up and I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be a grand slam homerun with more versions and batches for many years to come. I cant do this size yet but hopefully he’ll do a 43-44mm version one day.

I like the good old days when the only micros are kazimon, korsbek, UTS and zinex. They are timeless even to today standards.

+1. There must be 10x the number of micros as 'real' watch companies. It's just a sea of generic same ol' at this point.

I really doubt they’ll be around for “years to come”.

Wordy, but definitely a well done review. I actually like the watch. The size is a reasonable 40mm, they are using a proven movement, and the design looks cohesive without any wonky compromises. I think this looks better than the Monta GMT with its bent GMT hand, for example, and that doesn’t even consider the vast price difference.

Speaking of which, $650 for a 200 meter water resistant, ETA 2893-2 powered watch with a boxed sapphire crystal, and nicely done dial, bezel and case seems like a good deal.

I just received one of these last week... They're an interesting watch to be sure, I think Microbrands (in particular GMTs) are becoming somewhat of a known-quantity... Same movement, same lume, similar case, and size... It'll come down to aesthetic and dial design imho.

These feel exactly the same as the Farer GMT (again design notwithstanding) and are significantly cheaper.

It's a good looking watch but at 40mm diameter and a 37mm bezel it would wear like a woman's watch on my wrist. Too small for me.

A very thorough review but yes, that is a lot of words. I ended up skimming it. Specs and general overall impressions is what I need when looking for info on a watch. A good variety of photos from all angles is also worth a thousand words (or in this case 5500 words).

lol that's a lot of words and pictures.

This reminds me of 25 page papers in grad school; not fond memories.

Cool watch although they will eventually sell for 400 bones used and that's a very competitive market for micros and bad a$$ seikos..

GMT's seem to be the "in" watch for micros right now.

Hahaha yeah I didn’t read one word. Just scrolled through pictures. Your pictures are responsible for many of my microbrand purchases. Thank you !

With so many microbrands popping up every minute, it’s not a bad bet to think they’ll be gone in a few years but I’ll be happy to bet on Zelos. Look at Prometheus just turning 10yrs old. Many have died in those ten years. It’s very possible and Zelos has a huge fan base.

I picked this titanium one up at Wind Up:

Zelos has been around since 2014. I am not a huge fan of their designs for me personally but the owner does some cool designs. And that guy is a "watch" guy no two ways about it.

One thing is people keep talking about how easy it is be a watch brand. This is not always true, that is if you are actually getting your own parts made and ordering movements. For example most watch companies have to buy a minimum amount of movements. Since those companies are not a Swatch company their prices are not the best. When you have a MQ of 250 ETA movements at $260 a piece you to buy that is no small feat.

But not all companies have this challenge. Some just sit back a email designs to a manufacturer. I can say they should not all be lumped in the same category.

Looks amazing from here Shannon, and like the fit, and finish is out of this
world on it too. :o I know a lot of people are always trying to track down a
nice GMT watch, and this one looks beautiful.

Plus it doesn't look like every other GMT design, yet still feels timeless.
Which is very cool ..Thanks a lot for the link, and look at this one ! :salute:
