Rolex already sold pretty much all the sports models it made, with very little shelf time on them as it was. Rolex doesn’t stand to benefit by lowering production volume because they aren’t seeing more revenue from this shortage, it’s the secondary sellers who are benefiting.

I suspect it’s the result of a strong economy, low unemployment, and more discretionary spending. Add in the fact that secondary “grey market” sellers have cultivated relationships with AD’s and the result is what we see today.
