What am I missing here?
Re: Well this didn’t take long
They soft-discontinued all GMTs other than the BLNR and BLRO post-Basel, so now the forum dealers, scalpers, greys and accidental speculators are going full-bore to rape and pillage. The same reason some dealers hoard old 5-digit GMTs and try to charge $25k for them.

Re: Well this didn’t take long
Ahh, I thought 11k was pretty standard for secondary on a Batman these days. Then again I don't track Rolex very closely.
Re: Well this didn’t take long
That’s the all black bezel, not Batman. I saw another one listed today for 14.9k. Insane.

I came close to buying one a couple years ago when you could find a nice used one for $5800.
I think I’m over Rolex now though.

Rolex has become a "more money than brains" brand. Hate it because I want another Explorer II or GMT.

Re: Well this didn’t take long
Scalper/speculator. The thing is, for private sellers, I don’t care. What bothers me are the big forum dealers who have these things they hoard from ADs (which in turn artificially decreases the supply) and then they trickle them out at absurd prices.streetracer101 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 5:47 pm"I have another one now so I have no use for this one". Basically old fashioned ticket scalpers.

Re: Well this didn’t take long
Lol
They have been making the black ceramic GMT forever. It’ll come back down once people stop trying to play the typical “Rolex discontinued it” game.

Something has to give. These prices aren't sustainable
Re: Well this didn’t take long
You have to be special if you pull the trigger at 14.9 K on a black bezel GMT. People can ask all they want, no way they get it.

As long as there are people willing to pay these stupid prices, it’ll continue. To some extent, As buyers we control this. I refuse to pay these prices, and will wait to buy a sport Rolex until the bubble bursts or I get lucky and find one at a decent price

Re: Well this didn’t take long
I shoulda bought a 40mm explorer 2 with 3186 when they were $4500.
Re: Well this didn’t take long
Up until about 2 years ago, no one gave a crap about 3185 vs. 3186 from a monetary perspective. I had a 3186 Exp II without box and papers that I sold a few years ago - got reasonable value for it, but nothing out of the ordinary due to the movement. Then someone realized that the number of 5 digit GMT's made with a 3186 is comparatively small and prices on those have gone through the roof. Even so, you can get a Exp II with a 3186 at a comparatively reasonable price. And you can still get a 3185 version for 5k, or even less if you're willing to sacrifice box and papers and pristine condition.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 6:45 amI shoulda bought a 40mm explorer 2 with 3186 when they were $4500.

Wonder if Omega will offer a GMT variant of their new Seamaster soon.

I’m actually hunting a mint/unpolished/complete Explorer 2 with the newer movement. I think it will be my next one.JBZ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:15 amUp until about 2 years ago, no one gave a crap about 3185 vs. 3186 from a monetary perspective. I’d like a white, but I’m having a hard time finding one. I might hedge future prices increases by picking up a Black now.
Re: Well this didn’t take long
They re treating this watch like the Hess truck craze. They were a good buy for resale until they became perceived as an investment. Then everyone bought them and held them, so the natural scarcity caused by kids actually playing with them disappeared and the rarity evaporated. Beanie babies, yugioh cards, and 'discontinued' Rolexes....
The monocolor GMT may be discontinued now, but so was the Sea Dweller.
Rolex is now selling a two tone Sea Dweller with a bubble on the crystal. That means they are capable of ANYTHING

The black dial, 5 digit Exp II looks very nice. I'm still hoping Rolex will downside the Polar 216570, as I don't like the 5 digit Polar.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:57 amI’m actually hunting a mint/unpolished/complete Explorer 2 with the newer movement.
