I'm going to guess that, in this case at least, it's because this is supposed to be an aviator's watch. See Big Pilot ..

it's supposed to mimic the crown from the old dashboard timers...

Really? Doesn't look anything like those (thank goodness). Hodinkee made a point of saying that these represented the 'avia' part of 'Autavia'. So more aviation than automotive

Wow. I couldn’t disagree more with everyone here. I think these stole Basel. I’d get at least a couple of them.

I guess my tastes really run 180 degrees from most folks around here.
That's not a bad thing. Lots of great deals for people who know what they like and are lucky not to like what everyone else does.

I know it's a pilot-theme but no screw down crown still bothers me

One of my favorite watches was my Fortis B-42 without the screw down crown. I took it on several vacations and swam with it without any issues.

The case back and pics from BW seems to confirm that these watches are indeed aviation-themed:

Have you seen what watch companies are charging lately? $3500 is basically nothing. Not to mention greys will have These for $2800. I’m getting at least the blue, maybe the brown. I love them. Fuck Rolex and their motherfucking “sorrry you can’t buy one of our hand-made mass-produced watches without sucking off an AD to get out on a waitlist” bullshit.
