If you had to pare down your collection to 2 watches.......

Post by flyskate » Thu Mar 14, 2019 8:14 am

Since I've been wearing just 2 watches lately, I was wondering if you had to pare down your collection to 2 watches, what would they be?
The 2 watch rotation for me is:
SubC and polar Explorer 2

two is hard for me. i have a family heirloom omega that isn't going anywhere. the white PO would be one for sure. that leaves me nothing else. if i ignore the family heirloom, still don't know which would be #2. maybe sinn 556i? too many other choices. i'm in a mostly 5-6 watch rotation now. PO, 556i, U1, seaforth, PADI NAFT, tropik, and occasionally rotating something else in.

Stephen, what a phenomenal question ! :salute:

Honestly don't think could do it sir. First off I just like too many watches,
and then of the watches I have I can't choose a favorite, or two either. Add in
infinite amount of watches out there that are amazing, and it basically makes
the two watch collection near impossible on this end.

Of watches I might be able to afford? Two 16570's. One white and one black. At least that's the way I've been feeling lately.

If money were no object? Not sure.

JLC EL2
JLC Duometre (prob GMT version)

I don’t consider a beater watch necessary. If I’m ever doing something I can’t do in the EL2, I just go without a watch. :)

I have always wanted the Duometre, but it’s hard for me to justify a “dress watch” that pricey since it wouldn’t get a ton of wear. But if I’m limiting myself to two watches, well then that takes care of that.

In my current collection, I think these two would cover everything I ever needed.

Interesting question, wouldn't want to do it.

However, for the sake of argument; these two.

If I could add one more, probably opt for the 2264; a black dial with grab-and-go convenience.

Really tough call since I have my heirloom vintage Omega dress Seamaster... I guess I'd just keep my Big Pilot to make 2

Strange timing to this question, as I’ve recently been considering this very thing.

With the current Rolex situation, the 216570 white dial would stay. If I could find a new 114060 I’d probably grab it instead.

As my current small group sits, the Ares D1 would be my second.

I may very well sell the others, including the Vertex & Pelagos, as I’m bored with the watch game lately.

If I had to decide quickly I’d say a G and either my Helson Tortuga or Aegir PVD CD-2.

I personally couldn't pare it down to 2. Can't even attempt to imagine. I can see down to 5-6

Today it would be the 114060 and the 214270. Tomorrow it could be the Seamaster and a Tuna. Really glad I don’t have to narrow down to 2. That’s a tough one.

I went down this same road recently.

I settled on 3.

I could get to 2 if I wanted.

Correctly I have

114060

BB58

GSAR

These satisfy my needs.

The 58 is the one that can be swapped as desired.

Let’s see what Basel has to offer!

Oh man that would be tough, I only have 3 in the collection. My first choice is obviously the Explorer but number two would be between the Tudor Pelagos and Sinn Ezm3.

That’d be a tough call. As someone else said ~5 is much more doable.

I’d want one do anything and one dressier, so it’d probably be these two...

Wow, just three; close enough, consider yourself there.

Probably these two... which right now I believe are my oldest watches in the watchbox:

Work:

Play:

This combo would work too:

Another fun duo would be a Polar Explorer II and a Ti Planet Ocean. The good thing about having the Speedy is that with a nice black leather strap it almost pases as a dress watch (I mean, it looks great with a Tux)... plus on a nato it also rocks.
