The size restriction sucks balls. I want to be able to add a photo that I just took with my phone, not spend 5 minutes fucking around with another photo app.

Same here. This sucks! I figured out if I posted it elsewhere (wus), and then saved it back to my phone it was resized enough to be able to post here.

The size restriction only applied to attachments, right? I haven't hit any size restrictions with images hosted elsewhere thus far.

OK, thinking this through...
The phones now take huge images... Mine is 5mb per photo, huge 3500 pixel width...
To big for attachment.
With photophukit, I had to resize the images before posting or they would be too big.
After PB took all my photos hostage I quit posting pics because of the inability to upload my pics from phone easily due to being too big..
I just looked on Google play
Found a simple photo resize app.
Can resize single or a batch of photos to preset or custom size with a few clicks.
Took a 5+mb photo down to 95 kb in a few seconds and posted through stock chrome browser as attachment, no problem

And loaded super fast.
So easy, I actually might start posting pics again...

Awesome.

And in case anyone was wondering, the size restriction on attachments is because attachments are stored on DWC's server and occupy disk space that Matt pays for. Images that you upload to a hosting service like imgur, photobucket etc. and simply link to using the forum's img tags live only on the servers of the hosting service and occupy no storage on DWC's servers. So hosting is the preferred method for reasons of economy at DWC.

Although the forum does offer you the ability to attach photos to your posts for reasons of convenience, it's not hard to imagine how much disk space would be chewed up on the DWC server if everyone routinely attached 5MB+ images to their posts. As noted above, the performance of the forum is also positively impacted when attached images are kept as small as possible. Even keeping linked images relatively small will minimize the amount of data that the browser of someone viewing the forum will need to fetch, and that will provide everyone with a better forum experience.

It's a shame that the forum can't just automatically resize.

Makes perfect sense about storage issues. I've made a ton of money selling storage tape/disks/etc over the years. However it would seem Tapatalk "should" be a benefit then. An example would be the picture I couldn't get posted today because of size restrictions from my phone. Never paid attention to size before so checked. Almost 4mb, and after many attempts and various fixes gave up.

Then after uploading to 4 other forums with no issues as usual, decided to download my image from one of them back to my phone. Downloaded at less than 250kb. Obviously TT resized my picture before uploading to begin with. I was then able to add as an attachment here easily. This will be my work around I guess, but seems Tapatalk would be a benefit since it's resizes all photos?

FYI, I'm working on tweaking the forum config to hopefully make it easier to create attachments straight from your phone without you having to manually resize anything. Stay tuned...

OK, so you should be able to create attachments up to 8MB in size without hitting the file size limits now. The file will be auto-resized to something reasonable before it's posted to the forum. No need to use a separate program to resize your image before adding it to a post.

Give it a try and let me know if you run into issues.
