Am I an idiot? Just resolved/promised not to buy any more watches in 2019

Post by hidden by leaves » Thu Feb 07, 2019 8:33 am

Sort of a late New Year's resolution and promise to my wife...

I guess the (hopefully) silver lining is I can spend the year thinking of a "reward" in 2020?

Wish me luck. And don't tell me about any hot deals. Thanks in advance. :salute:

My advice, if you are serious, is to avoid this forum.

The 2nd mistake is you should have never put it in writing. The first was even making the promise.

Best of luck; as pointed out, almost impossible to accomplish the goal hanging out here.

Are trades included in that promise? :shifty:

Thing is it's not really about the vow but being happy with the state of your collection. Once you get what you're happy with the rest can work itself out over time.

I always leave myself the option of one premium "wildcard" watch on top of 3 other mainstays (going on 6 years for all), but rarely feel the urgent need to flip that one watch. If I do it needs to be on a 1 in and 1 out basis. In this case it was the MKXVIII (which I miss dearly) for 43.5mm PO (which I love).

I have a Solar Tuna which I don't count because it was $200. I'd also like to consider another turdle build which wouldn't break the bank. But nothing more in the <$500 category. But having the option to pick some low hanging fruit here or there keeps things interesting until "the one" comes around you must have, and you don't have the added guilt.

I did a big watch fast around this time last year, which amounted to clearing my browser/cache and deleting every watch-related app on my phone. I lasted, like four months, which is more or less a personal record. Good luck OP.

I didn't buy for a number of months last year. That was cool, but my wife asked me how many pairs of speakers I needed. :banghead: F'ing Craigslist...

I tell my wife that incoming packages (the ones she sees anyway :shifty: ) are trades. Pretty sure she's onto me though.

Time travel. Only way this works.
Stan, don’t you know the first law of physics? Anything that’s fun costs at least eight dollars”
-- Eric Cartman

“To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due.”
― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman

I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man
Floating down canal
It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now
Now you may be thinking that I was had
But this watch is never wrong
And If I have trouble the warranty said
Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On

GOOD LUCK......hopefully you really like what you already got.....does your resolution mean nothing new at all or just nothing net new meaning you can still do trades or sell something to fund a new purchase?

If you plan on staying here as a contributor to the forum it would be best to do an intro post. If not you will end up being labeled as a spammer.
