New winder

Post by ChuckW » Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:10 pm

I've seen a lot of folks bash the Brookstone Quad winder in favor of a much more expensive Wolf winder. I have no doubt that the Wolf is better quality, but I've owned my Brookstone since 2011 and considering the price and programming options, not to mention the length of service, I think it was a good buy, but I've noticed that some of the individual winders are starting to get noisy and erratic. Brookstone seems to gotten out of the watch winder business and I'm wary of many of the budget priced winders on Amazon and Ebay.

The reviews I've seen on Juvo suggest a quality comparable to Wolf for less money. I also think think they're better looking. Never much cared for the leather covered look. The Juvo M series (M3, M4) are less expensive than the A models. Their winders come with LCD lights that come on when the winders turn, but I don't like to display my watches in the living room and LCD lights are a bad idea in the bedroom unless they can be turned off. I emailed Juvo to find out the lights on M4 winders can be adjusted. Jay answered that the M models cannot be turned off, but the A models have a switch that controls the LEDs to low, medium, high, and off. He also mentioned that he had to take his own personal M4 out of the bedroom because it was too bright. He offered me a one time 15% discount code, which would reflect the price they were on sale for several weeks ago.

I have a new Juvo A4 on its way to me. I can still get some use out of the Brookstone quad, but I think its days are numbered.

Is it possible to have those lights sync to some dance music? I’m picturing you doing a shuffle dance in front of the winder.

Stupid question...never had a winder... this thing has so many settings how do you know what is appropriate for each watch? Direction and number of rotations etc.

I like the winder idea but they never stuck with me. I always think of it as leaving the engine of your car running 24/7. I'm just not sure whether it prematurely wears on the movements due to always moving state.
That is a great looking one though. Damn

My Brookstone 4 position winder lost one position after about 2 years, then another the next and then found the trash can. It was a little noisy too.

Yeah this always how I felt too...I know it is debatable, but then I look at the nice ones and dang 1k+ of watch money spent on the winder....I do think this would get me to wear my triple date watch more though

I can see how those LEDs could be a problem.

The LEDs are why I didn't go with the less expensive M4. The A4 has an adjustment knob for the LEDs (low, medium, high, off). I emailed Jay at Juvo and expressed my concerns about the lights and asked if they had any plans for a stealth M4. He offered a discount on the A4.
