I’m one of the few people who doesn’t view simplicity as a virtue in the watches I like. I like watches with a lot of complications, and in general, that always includes a date.

I just get way too bored with watches that only tell time. To the point where I actually get annoyed when looking at my wrist.

I too am a "must have date" kinda guy. Always have been, always will be. But my OCD comes into play with the date window placement. Can be 3 or 6 o'clock, but never 4.

Certain watch designs - like a tri-compax chronograph - sometimes demand a placement at 4:30, unless the date is going to be placed at '12' which can look odd. But I don't know why manufacturers like BP choose to do a 4:30 date on a three-handed watch. That would bug me.

Love no date. The clean aesthetics trump having the date info for me.

I like the date, but I also like complications. Big date is my second favorite complication after dual timezone, especially when it is executed well like Lange or VC Overseas Chronograph.

Speaking of VC, I don't care how "sub-optimal" the date window is on the new Overseas chronograph with blue dial, I love it and I want it :)

I don't have a preference one way or the other but we are surrounded by the date everywhere you look.
Some watches do look better without a date and some watches would have looked better if they were made with no date.

I don’t understand this Hangup with the date either.
Frankly I don’t need a watch for the time but I for a few hours a day when I am not sitting in front of a computer, iPad, or phone.

You don't need a watch at all then, do you. It's simply a preference. Image

Experience has shown that I need a date on my watch (sure, the date is everywhere - so is the time). Really nice watches just haven’t stuck with me because there’s no date (Speedmaster, Daytona, Explorer, Black Bay).

As I’ve gotten older, it’s gotten harder for me to read the date. Makes me appreciate the dreaded Rolex cyclops even more.

hangup? i'm not sure i saw anyone with a big hangup.

personally, if i have a choice i go no date. but i have plenty of date watches. it won't turn me off a watch if it has one. unless it's distractingly implemented.

I like the cyclops. It’s part of what makes Rolex Rolex. And I can’t see shit in low light anymore.

I really like Seiko's set-up with the day-date on the dial. I don't sit on a computer or my phone all day and I use my watch for information.

I can look at paintings on the wall, or the scenery if outside, when I want to see pretty things.

Yes, is it all preference, of course.

I always like a complication besides the time on a watch (be it at least a date or a divers bezel). I prefer a date on a watch (date only, not day/date, and preferably at 6 or 3. Also the date wheel should match the dial color).

I don’t miss the date on the Speedy (you can track the date with the chrono if necessary). Neither miss it on the BB58, but its because the watch is just great looking.

I could live without it, but I'm OK with the date. The day is useless imo and takes up too much space. How could you not know what day it is?

Exactly, I am sure it is habit when you are writing a check to look at watch to find the date, but I don’t write many checks anymore.

Again, it’s all preference and there are no wrong answers. To me, it is all visually how a watch looks on the wire and so I can’t comprehend not wearing a Speedy because it doesn’t have a date

I do contract work, it's really easy to forget what weekday it is when I'm between contracts and it's been a few weeks since I worked. Image

If you work exactly the same 5 day week structure every week its easy to track. If your work flow is less structured or goes across weekends its not always so easy.

The same as those people who say you don't need a watch when you have a computer in front of you all day - they are taking their life and assuming that's how everyone does it.

I need a date and luckily my eyes still work well enough to see even the smallest font. The only watch without a date that has actually stuck for any length of time was the speedy pro. Just ‘cause it’s such an awesome watch ;)

I prefer a date. I don’t like having to pull out my phone for the date. Also, if you work from 1900-0700 having a date is a huge must. It gets confusing what day it is at 0300.
