New AP 15500
Looks like the 15500 is replacing the 15400. The new watch uses the new calibre 4130 which is a little larger than the 3120 used in the 15400 and ups the power reserve by 10 hours - it also fattens up the case a little bit. AP removed 'Automatic' from the dial which seems to have left it a bit empty/unbalanced IMO. Other than that the watch appears to be unchanged. I didn't see prices listed so not sure if the new model comes along with a bigger price tag.
AP has announced several other novelties as well, including a 15202 with salmon dial, a ROC with purple dial, and a pretty cool looking grey ceramic Offshore.
I'm ignoring the whole Code 11.59 thing, it's pretty horrible.

That Salmon dial is the bees knees and I like the new sizes for 3 handers and Chronos.
thank you for ignoring the 11.59

Re: New AP 15500
I just noticed that the larger movement in the 15500 has pushed the date window right up against the dial edge. I think I prefer the partial marker and the date a bit further away from the edge of the dial on the 15400.
Looks like the 'AP' logo and hour markers of the 15500 are on 'roids too.

Hodinkee is reporting that the 15500 is $19,200.

I’m not feeling that 15500, or the salmon Jumbo.

+1 I think it's a big step backwards from the 15400.

Re: New AP 15500
I suspect that was the goal - to add a bit of sportiness to a watch that has morphed into more of a dress watch.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 10:35 amThis new one is going to wear big. It looks chunky and bold.
To my mind the 15400 is much closer to the Jumbo in terms of aesthetics, but is sized for those who want something a bit larger. The 15500 seems to take the watch in a whole different direction.

Re: New AP 15500
It reminds me of the Rolex Sub, five to six digit transition. It’s just “more” in every way.logan2z wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 10:50 amI suspect that was the goal - to add a bit of sportiness to a watch that has morphed into more of a dress watch.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 10:35 amThis new one is going to wear big. Re: New AP 15500
Now if they'd just use the new integrated chronograph movement and get the date out of the crater in the dial it would be even better - and probably priced even more exorbitantly

Re: New AP 15500
Didn't want to start another AP thread, but there's also a new 42mm Ti ROO that uses the F. Piguet movement. No official pics on the AP web site yet for some reason, but it's starting to show up on some watch sites and IG.
Re: New AP 15500
Yeah the date pushed out to the edge and lack of writing on the bottom of the dial throws off the balance for me. I’ll keep my 15400.JP Chestnut wrote:I’m not feeling that 15500, or the salmon Jumbo.

The side-by-side really drives home how different the 15400 and 15500 really are:

Re: New AP 15500
I agree. I’m okay with the logo design just could have been a little thinner. Date window sucks.logan2z wrote:+1 I think it's a big step backwards from the 15400.

AP Royal Oak Design Meeting, September 2014
AP CEO: Guys, I've had enough of all the bitching and moaning about the date position on the Royal Oak because of the relatively small movement size. So I'm giving you a $50M budget to design a brand new movement from scratch to use in a new version of the Royal Oak. We plan to debut it at SIHH 2019 so you better get to it.
AP Head of Design: Bro, great news! We're on it!
SIHH 2019, Pre-show reveal of the 15500 to watch journalists/collectors
AP CEO: Thank you all for coming. I'm proud to unveil our newest iteration of the iconic Royal Oak, the 15500, with a brand-new in-house movement that has taken 5 years of R&D and a significant financial investment to produce.
[Applause]
AP CEO: I'll take questions now. Yes, please go ahead:
Watch Journalist: Why is the date mashed up against the right side of the dial? It looks kinda weird.
AP CEO: FUCK!

That was my first though. I remember all the complaints about the small movement and date position.logan2z wrote:AP Royal Oak Design Meeting, September 2014

I think the new one would have been fine if they left the Automatic text on the dial.

Just noticed the minute markers are shorter and wider than the 15400 too.

Agree, plus black date wheel (appears black to me at least). No date would look way better.logan2z wrote:

It really needs some text at 6... Looks very un balanced.logan2z wrote:The side-by-side really drives home how different the 15400 and 15500 really are:
