F my luck - Jomashop!
I bought a new Autavia from Jomashop last week. The price was the same as or less than used ones I've seen and it has the new style minute counter which I really wanted.
It showed up and everything looked great. The chronograph function worked perfectly and everything reset to zero, the date was centered, crown was smooth, bezel aligned etc... I set the time and started wearing it. The next day I noticed I was about a minute off. I figured I just screwed up when I set the time, so I set it again. That night I noticed I was way off again.
Turns out the watch is running about 75 to 80 seconds slow per day. I'm not obsessive about accuracy - but wtf?! I've never heard of a new watch being that far off. Not sure what my best move is now.. I really don't want to try the jomashop "warranty". I may try to exchange it for another watch, if that doesnt work I guess I'll have to send it to Tag and pay whatever it costs to get it regulated...
I just needed to vent my frustrations to my fellow watch guys...

Honestly the best solution is to get your money back. They are not gonna help you out with repairs. That is a chance you take buying from these guys. They are cheap for a reason.shaneotool wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 8:23 amI bought a new Autavia from Jomashop last week. I would wait and wear it more. Sometimes it just takes a bit for it to re-regulate itself after being shipped.
Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
Sounds magnetized. Could be a 5 second fix. I've had watches running that fast. After demagnetizing they were fine. I'd try that first.

Yep. The cheapo blue demagnetizers on eBay work just fine.pbj204 wrote:Sounds magnetized. Could be a 5 second fix. I've had watches running that fast. After demagnetizing they were fine. I'd try that first.

Yep - and usually wildly fast in my experience.

Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
Yeah - it's definitely not magnetized. I have one of those cheap demagetizers and threw it on there just to see if that would do anything - it didn't..
I know it's a bit of a dice roll going grey market - I figured the chance of me needing any warranty work was less than 5% though so I took a chance. Didn't work out this time.
I reset the time on the watch this morning and set it in a drawer - I'm going to check it tonight to see if there is any improvement...

That sucks, hope it comes out of drawer better than when it went in.

I’d definitely try to demagnetize it before doing anything else and worrying too much.
Maybe start doing the compass test to see if it is magnetized.
Otherwise return it for refund if you don’t want to send it for repair with their warranty center.

I had a good service experience through joma.
I got a JLC alarm, and after a few months, ran slow and basically had no power reserve.
Sent it in to joma, 6 weeks later came back from JLC fully serviced. I can’t remeber if it went back to me directly or via joma, but saw the JLC paperwork.
It may not be as bad as you think.

It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now

I have had service through Joma before as well. I've never had any problems with them. I've bought sunglasses and purses for my wife from them.(and a couple for myself)toxicavenger wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:41 amyou were lucky. i have never heard of this happening thru joma
Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
I was also able to return watches through them also that I did not like.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:41 amyou were lucky. i have never heard of this happening thru joma
Personally, my experience with them has been very good over the years...and maybe just as easy as some ads I have dealt with.
I am sure there have been good experiences and bad experiences out there. These are just mine and I would not hesitate to deal with them. And with a caveat. So far. (But I would say that with ads also).

Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
As Terry said, a magnetized watch can either run very fast or very slow. My Sinn 103 became magnetized and was running about 30 seconds slow. I blame the magnet on my tablet case.

Some have had good experiences with their CS, and some bad. Before spending any money, I'd at least avail yourself of their procedures. If it doesn't work out, then go to plan B.
Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
That is upsetting Paul, and am hoping you don't have to send it
back, or out. But am thinking everything will work out !

Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
I used to own an aquagraph and have had other chronographs that are modules. I noticed that some of these watches required you set the time 1 minute ahead so that the module can synch. Try it and see that first minute and check if the minute hand actually moves or only moves after the second minute has started.
Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
Don't blame Jomashop. They don't make the watch. It's just a minor adjustment. Let them fix it. I bought my wife a new Rolex from an AD. It was running fast. I took it in to the AD and it was fine in 20 minutes. I think magnetized. Anyway it runs near perfect now. Shit happens.

Re: F my luck - Jomashop!
Definitely take it to someone local to get demagnetized, if possible, before you do anything else. I’ve had my Autavia adjusted and it’s fully capable of COSC timekeeping, with a great PR.
