Ghosts of Watches Past
I know that most of you BODs don't get sentimental about watches you've flipped, and some of you guys never sell. I was going through some files this morning and came across these. All gone. If I knew then...

Some beautiful watches that's for sure Steve, but you've added some amazing
watches to the collection also in the meantime ! ..So look at it like that maybe.
Then you never know what might happen down the road with even getting
one, or more of those watches back !

I don't want to even think about it.

Hard to Believe these have moved on. I had a rare Tropical Dial Omega Speedy 861; Tudor 9411, Two (2) at the time Kobold icons, a Seiko 6139 and the incredible Zodiac to name a few. Good news they all went to great homes and for the most part still there!

i generally rip the bandaid off and move forward. Looking back there were many i wished i hadnt have sold but they all were sacrificed to get others....So the story goes.
Re: Ghosts of Watches Past
I generally don’t regret selling most watches from an aesthetic point of view. From a financial point of view, I should have held onto the Zenith Daytona, the in-house, pre-ceramic Daytona, the vintage Doxa Searambler, and one of my 16600 sea dwellers.
And I should have bought that GMT 16710 when I had the chance.

Just to throw this out there and support Eric's comment, I think many members use their collection as currency to update the collection. Can't begrudge a sale or trade if acquiring new blood is the goal.

Re: Ghosts of Watches Past
Should have kept these two...
Re: Ghosts of Watches Past
2ea. Early Tudor subs for $1850-2000
1675... in great condition for $3500
14060M for $4800
16750... for $3800
16710....Crisp full kit with all bezels options and SJ (and oyster) I sold for $6000
SD4K before the cut off.
I’m done crying over all of it and prefer to laugh about it now. My three mainstay watches have stayed the same so I’m happy still, and certainly filled the void above with my 18’ blue PO, but certainly learned a lesson on procuring what you intend to keep. My flipitus has slowed way way down as has my frivolous purchasing.
Only Rolex now is my wife’s DJ. I’m over Rolex now as that ship sailed for multiple reasons we all know now.

Glad I was smart and kept most of my vintage watches did sell a few before I moved to MT. Just glad I kept my favorites and even added a few. Mite be done have not bought any thing since June like I lost this habit of ours. I got one watch in the shop that was a project I had to get back from Jack at IWW and have some one else finish it. I all most did not try to get some one to finish it. One of these days mite have a BIG sell off but not yet.

It hurts me and it’s not even my watch.JBZ wrote:This one’s gotta hurt.
Prices on these are insane. I missed out on one over a year ago - some farmer had owned it and beat the ever living piss out of it for decades. Faded, dented, gouged, all original with boxes and receipts. I still feel regret for not getting to the AD a little quicker.

Re: Ghosts of Watches Past
I have in most instances bought back the ones that I have really missed, and as has been said everything moved was a sacrifice for something else, but in terms of unlikely to find again at similar prices it has to be the twin vintage Rolexes.
I really was not wearing either of these any longer when I moved them (and proceeds went to Pateks), but these would be hard to replace without breaking the bank. Even though I got a lot more $$ in sale or trade for these than I originally paid for them, in hindsight I should have packed them away and treated them as an investment and gone about my regular collecting. Still both as cool if not cooler than anything I have ever owned.

Say what you want about current Rolex watches and their stupid ass business model but those vintage Seadwellers and red Subs are killer pieces. A long time ago I should have sold every watch I had and invested in a faded red Sub or double red Seadweller and called it a day. Could easily be a one watch guy with one of those for the rest of my days.
Edit - no chance of that now. Out of my league.
