Tudor Black Bay GMT initial impressions

Post by nweash » Sat Nov 03, 2018 5:46 pm

*edited 11-10-18 after schooling myself on this watch a little *

I thought a new thread would be nice so I stop spamming the WRUW.

This is mostly in response to Robs comment.

All I have to compare it with are 3 runs at the Pelagos 1st gen Image and 6 months with a BLNR.

(I’ll try not to say pelly just in case hoppy reads this)

Love the aluminum bezel. Makes the colors look amazing. They don’t get reflective or washed out like it’s polished ceramic big brother. The blue is daaaark. Sometimes gray / black. I much prefer that over the whatever-the-hell kinda blue that pelagos has.

Love the giant crown.

It’s my first Tudor in house and it feels great. Winds smooth, all the positions feel solid and snappy.

Glad the bezel is on ball bearings like the Pelagos.

So nice to have an hour jumping movement back like the BLNR, and my old PAM 305.

41mm seems perfect for my 6.75” wrist.

If I had to be picky....

Lug gap is still a problem. The positioning of their lug holes could use some work.

[WRONG]The bracelet is one micro adjustment away from being as small as it gets to fit on my baby wrist. So I assume if you’re under 6.5” you’re shit out of luck? Unless I’m missing something.

[UPDATED]There is one link left to remove and one micro adjustment left. So I believe it’s safe to say this will fit 6”+

Both my Pelagos and BLNR have better bezel action. Not sure why this one feels kinda cheap by comparison especially to the pelagos.

[WRONG]Also in order to get the bracelet to fit I have to have the clasp annoyingly off center.

[UPDATED] I must’ve been high or something I kept trying to remove another link from the 12oclock side when I wanted one off of the 6. Bracelet sits perfectly center now.

Image

Nothings a deal breaker for me just thought I’d share my initial thoughts.

Have a good one!

That's what she said (thought I'd get that out of the way first).

Congrats Nick. I think I say this at least twice a week, but I'm not really a Rolex/Tudor guy. But I did try on the Black Bay recently and really liked it. Enjoy the GMT, very cool watch.

Lol I rewrote that twice and said no way I’m getting out of here alive. Glad I know my audience.

Agree on Rolex. Tudor does a lot of what I wish Rolex would do. A Batman Pelagos would be the tits. Image

Looks great on the strap. I don't think the lug gap is a big deal.

Tudor Black Bay GMT initial impressions

Love it. Interesting about bracelet sizing. My wrist is ~6.5” and I assume it would work, but would be very disappointed if it didn’t. Curious to see additional strap shots with the lug gap.

Regardless, it’s a great looking watch. Congrats and enjoy.

Love the dark blue bezel.
Almost effectively a Coke bezel - Right?

Nick, excellent first impressions, and nice fister shot ;)

Lug hole placement looks a little sub-optimal, but maybe fat spring bars would help? Still looks great and workable. Thanks for the impressions :salute: Definitely on the short list for me.

Yup exactly! Damn near it. Kinda perfect if you like both styles but could only get one.

The last link - the one that attaches to the clasp on the 6 o’clock side - looks like it won’t come off, but it it will. Just have to push out the lug pin, remove that last link, and reinstall the pin on the next link. Works like a charm. I didn’t have to do it with a 7” wrist, but I’ve read about it. That should get your clasp better centered.

Gorgeous watch - congrats!!!

It's a beautiful watch, congrats! I also have a 6.75" wrist and I still can take at least one more link from my BB58 bracelet.

I just tried this unsuccessfully.

The link connected to the clasp at 6 o’clock is unlike the rest with a larger pin. The next link down has rivets that won’t let it sit in-between the clasp itself. (If that makes any sense I am not a good explainer)

A quick workaround was to wear the clasp backwards. Sits centered now as awkward as it looks. \_(ツ)_/¯

Correct - the last link down is connected to the clasp with a lug bar and requires a needle to release the pin, then you can just unscrew the last link and put the lug bar through the first rivet link on the clasp side. There are pics somewhere on WUS
