Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
You guys have any experience with these models? Pics?
I’d really love to hear if someone has or had both and how they feel about them.

Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
I’ve owned the 053 (blue version of the 051) a few times. It’s a really nice watch for the price. Case finishing is excellent, lume is insane, and I really like whatever material they use for the bezel. Gives it a little bit of shine. My only issue with it was the size. It’s 42mm, but wore large for me due to the longish L2L.

I have the blue version 053 and love it personally. Sourced the bracelet later as the blue only comes on the rubber strap, which is very soft. The bracelet is basically the 015 Tuna bracelet in 20mm without the ratcheting clasp.

The case on the first one is flat and doesn't turn down at the lugs so it wears bigger imo.
The second one wears like the MM but lower on the wrist.

Yeah, 051 wears big imo. Too much so for my wrist. Haven’t tried the 061.

Man that sucks, I really like the dial lay out.
I really loved the look of the sumo when I had one, but those long lugs made it very uncomfortable for me.
Are we talking sumo feel or size on the wrist?

I own an 053 (the blue variant) and wore it almost exclusively throughout the summer.
You can buy the bracelet separately on eBay (or at least you could) for about $150.
I wore mine on either the stock rubber / silicone (which is actually really nice and includes tubes to protect against tear out at the spring bars) or one of Terry's Magnums in blue.
The combination of sapphire and diashield makes for a fantastic beach watch.
I think it wears a bit smaller on rubber than on the bracelet, but it is a big 42, but not as tall as a MM300.

I’m pretty sure these wear smaller than the Sumo, but I’ve never had these two models. I thought about getting one until I got the SRP777 with a sapphire crystal. It’s damn near perfect, the size is bang on for my wrist, and I’m not sure even if these wear similarly that they’d get similar wrist time. I’m still curious to eventually try the MM300 looking variant. With the improved dimensions over the MM300 it may be better than I expect.

I have the SBDC051. It's quite long lug-to-lug.
That said, if you're comfortable with the Turdle or MM, you'll be fine with the '051, too.
The SBDC051 is only slightly heavier than the Turdle (case-only weight of 93 g vs. 91 g). The MM weighs in at 115 g (case only).

Definitely not. The Sumo is noticeable bigger, but does have the curved lugs. The 051 lugs are much shorter and just slightly curved. The dial is what make it look bigger imo. My wrist is 7" and flat on top and the 051/053 wears fine for me. No lug overhang.BBK357 wrote:^^^

Great shot, reminds me I should throw mine back on the bracelet for a bit. Been wearing it pretty exclusively on one of Terry's Blue mil series straps...

Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
Had the 051. Thought it wore slightly smaller than a NAFT, although still a big watch overall. I found it very well made, with a fantastic bracelet. Ultimately, just like all ~$700 Seikos, it just couldn't find a place in my collection.
Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
I have an 051 if you are interested - not getting worn since getting the BB58 and have been too lazy to put up for sale. Wears somewhat big but flatter than the MM300 and a better bracelet. I like smaller watches but had no issues with it. Pics i took long ago for scale. My wrist is 7 1/4”. If you want to try it I’m happy to send to you to trial.

I thought this watch was finished nicer than the Seiko MM.

Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
You may be right and I wouldn't argue that point. Can't really do an honest comparison with my MM since it was almost 10 when I got it (Love it more because of that). There are aspects of each I prefer over the other.

Thanks for all the responses guys. The pics look great, just worried about comfort as it a pretty heavy watch on bracelet (per specs).
I guess no one has tried the 061?
Thanks for the offer but I can’t buy anything at the time, I am just researching for hopefully a near future purchase.
I really like the looks of both watches, but I need it to be comfortable for me. Unfortunately I won’t know if it works on my wrist until I try it on since I have some nerve issues.
If these guys won’t work out I’ll be looking for a 007 shogun and swap hands for the MM300 set.

I would go for the Shogun if it was me. I do wish it had factory sapphire though.
Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
If I didn't already have a mm300 I would probably give the SBDC063 a go:

Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
I agree with the other posts, but would add this: the SBDC051/53 is a dress watch that is a thoroughly competent diver. Its shiny and a bit blingy in a way that most Seiko divers are not.

It's been my favorite Seiko. I have smaller wrists, and I think it fits me perfect. I through an uncle seiko strap on it, and it will probably stay like that.
Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
I'm waiting for the SBDC065
Re: Seiko SBDC051 and SBDC061
I owned a 61. It wore smaller than the 51 and a little smaller than a sumo.
The case is similar to the sumo. Lots of angles. I would say it wears way smaller than the specs suggest due to the dial size. It wears comfortably though, the weight is nicely distributed and the caseback doesn't bulge. The bezel is the same cool lacquer stuff that the 51 has.
The printing on the chapter ring on mine was off so I sold it, but other than that I thought it was really nice for the price.
I'd say it's worth a go if you like the look!
